-5/8" steel rebar in a sock to keep from messing with your barrel/ make sure it doesn't tumble.
-balloons filled with water/ ketchup
-roll of aluminum foil with
-all with wadding
the aluminum foil in particular worked well. at the peak of it's trajectory, it began to unroll and drifted down nicely.

i like the idea with the oxy-propane balloon, but i think that it could use some improvement. first, having the fuse lit while loading it seems a little unsafe. i attached a rough diagram detailing my idea. it could be made of whatever material you like. pad it if you want. i know you are all thinki...

i know you were talking about combustions, but i have a somewhat related idea about hybrid ignition. if the spark is at the front, the flame travels to the back until the chamber pressure exceeds the burst disk. then the unburned fuel flows to the barrel, pushing the flame front back and burning slo...

Yeah but it would be way cooler if the hybrid cars actually worked like a conventional spudding hybrid. indeed, but doesnt a turbo or supercharger do that? I am not sure, I am not a mechanic yes it does, but normal cars are hybrids already. i think around 8x. so i think turbo's bump that to around ...

right now, i was going to use around 500psi, which it tells me around 800 psi peak What the hell does that mean? If you fuel to 500psi, I can guarantee you that the combustion pressure will be far in excess of 800psi. Try something more like 3.5k, or more. yeah, i have to agree that that doesn't ma...

but for 15x with oxygen, I'd only need 30psig since the air is only ~21% oxygen. still, that's another tank, another high accuracy gauge, another component to manipulate, and probably a buttload more money. i think I'll go to SCH 80 instead... edit: i decided to go with a 2"x18" chamber. will cost a...

ok, maybe 15x was a little excessive... a lot. in HGDT, you're right, it can reach 1.7kpsi if i use a 1.7kpsi burst disk. right now, i was going to use around 500psi, which it tells me around 800 psi peak. i know HGDT is inaccurate (especially because it thinks the stoichiometric ratio for MAPP is h...

i am about to just give up and go with copper, but how can i attach this to threaded steel? could I just solder it into a steel female threaded coupling and expect it not to blow off? if not, how is this done? also, just to make sure is 2" sch40 welded steel okay for a 15x MAPP/propane-air chamber, ...

King- I'm going into highschool next year, and can't take any electives that year (and they won't MAKE me take shop). I could have older students do it, but my school has an anal non violence, hurting people, gun=bad mindset, and I'm not sure I'd trust people just learning how to weld learning on so...

unfortunately, i lack a welder. Welded steel is the way to go in this case. Why would you need a welder? There are plenty of welding shops out there that would be willing to do it for a very minimal fee, especially if you tell them what you're building. fair enough, but sometimes welded fittings ar...

Arn't you on 4HV? Wouldn't a PVC barrel work? killjoy used PVC on FEAR. yep, 3kj induction launcher in the works 8) the one thing i was worried about with a PVC barrel was the mechanical stress on the fitting connecting it to the chamber. 10' of pipe acting as a lever on a little plastic fitting mi...

assorted hybrid questions
Hi, I have a few questions about hybrid construction. 1) I was looking at using a 3" diameter steel chamber of undetermined length. McMaster doesn't have high pressure 3" to whatever reducing couplings. The highest I can find is 150psi malleable steel. I think my gun may push 650psi, according HGDT ...
