Re: Short question topic
Okay heres a weird question that will probably be obvious in hindsight. I think it would make sense but lemme ask you guys: So obviously there is such a thing as too tight of a barrel for a given projectile. Unless you have a pretty massive air chamber, once you start having to hammer down a project...

Re: Alcohol-Fueled Marble Guns
I had thought about building one with a fiberglass cast stock that doubles as the combustion chamber.
It seems that you can get hundreds of shots from a small spritzer of alcohol. I'm curious how long you have before the alcohol vapor begins to condense in the chamber and wont combust.

Re: Low-friction/Specialty Ball Valves?
You can try to lubricate the compressed air, and not the valve. While the lubricant added to the ball valve is not constant, at first it is a lot and then it disappears, the lubricated air is constant, and your valve will always have moderate lubrication. I have not tried but it is not much work to...

Re: Low-friction/Specialty Ball Valves?
I've noticed that variability also. I wonder what that is? Deformation of the seal that creates a detente? Temperature? I play with the valves at the building center and notice that new ones are often very stiff. My 3/4" ball valve gun had a heavy hammer driven by bungees that easily overcame openi...

Re: Low-friction/Specialty Ball Valves?
What size? Also, I don't think low friction would increase performance much. What are your requirements for the cannon? Ammunition, barrel size, construction material etc. I'm looking for a replacement valve for my ball-valve musket. It's a 3/8" full port, standard plumbing valve with a modified tu...

Re: Airsoft/ 1/4 ball bearings
I'm currently on the hunt for a good barrel for the 1/4" slingshot ball bearings. I'm looking for air tight interference fit. Assuming your bearings are really 1/4", you can make your own using a 1/4" reamer and maybe a 6mm. Start with some 6mm ID thick wall tubing, if it's the welded crap with a s...

Re: Ideas for biodegradable cannon-balls
It sounds kinda weird but slingers (who use slings) make very cheap projectiles from clumping cat litter, just be sure to use clean litter.

Low-friction/Specialty Ball Valves?
Just curious if any of you spudders have run across any ball valves that are in some aspect better for pneumatic spudguns than your typical hardware store plumbing ball valve. I'm looking for a full-port ball valve that requires very low effort to turn, at least 600psi max pressure. If anyone has ru...

Re: Airsoft/ 1/4 ball bearings
6mm airsoft BBs and 1/4 ball bearings fit nicely inside of a 5/16 metal brake line. With the ball bearings use a magnet to hold them in place. Airsoft pellets average about 5.95-6.03mm and store bought 1/4" ball bearings are 6.35mm, so theres a bit of a size difference. Assuming the brake line is n...

Holy crap, 1050 fps with 15mm bearings? You've got energy comparable to modern mid-caliber handguns.

Re: Spring-Loaded Ball Valve patent from 1880
Oh that is cool, reminds me of some of the early Daisy pellet guns. Wonder how it's performance would have compared to other butt-reservoir Victorian airguns, it appears to be a dump valve so probably one decent shot then 10 minutes of pumping.
