Can you think of a way to attach the pvc without a weak point? Where would I find this conduit and how would I attach it? I can't weld and I wanted this cannon to be able to be taken apart. Is there a way to have 2 shorter pieces of conduit attached to each other somewhat seamlessly, for transportat...

lol trashcan full of rocks. Sounds effective. I obviously wouldn't be anywhere near it the first time it goes off, but after it is proven "safe" I might. Would the threads on the pvc barrel be able to stand the force of firing. Aka: would the barrel pull out? Would you suggest the oring/ separate pr...

I think they both work, but the pop-up removes any cushioning effect the air behind the piston would have. You end up with a piston with several hundred pounds of force slamming into a hard steel/iron fitting. I think that would put considerable wear on the piston/tee. I would rather not use an O-ri...

I wanted to use a piston to be different and to cut reload times. A burst disk is my "fall back."

more hybrid questions

I will hopefully be making a piston hybrid soon, and have some questions. my hopeful, made up specs: -3"x12" steel pipe for chamber EDIT: now hopefully 3"x18" -piston for a 1.5" "barrel" in a 2.5"tee* -120"x 3" sch80 pvc barrel. -11x propane/air temporary max mix.(until I buy a pump that can go abov...

I don't have any suggestions to fix the bending while leaving aesthetics intact , but you could try taping a piece of wood to the barrel parallel to it. Honestly, I don't think the bending will do much to affect power, and any loss WILL be made up for by the longer barrel. If you are using spherical...

You would most likely get more power yet, because there will be 2.25x more force on the projectile. If you are buying a new barrel, i would suggest getting a longer one, like 5 feet.

The best way to dry the mixture, if it is made outside the chamber, is ironically bubble the mix through water. This allows any water vapor to condense and become part of the liquid. A better, but much less safe way would be to put it in a bottle with some silica dioxide, that stuff in shoe boxes an...

You may wish to put a bumper of some kind on the far left end of chamber II in the diagram you drew on page 2. Relocation of the C1 to near the middle of chamber II could allow air to cushion the piston. If the piston recoiled, after the half way point, pressure would build on the oxy-propane side, ...

pressure amplifier idea.

I forgot how i got to this, but on the 3rd page of this: http://www.haskel.com/Files/Haskel-en/Global/US-en/Air_Pressure_Amplifier.pdf it explains how they work. for those of you who don't want to read, it converts pressure into mechanical force, and applies this to a smaller area, increasing the ps...

What you are saying makes sense now. If the pressure rose, it would be like a 1.02x hybrid or something random like that. The main problem that I noticed is that it thinks that the percentage for MAPP combustion is half that of propane. It tells me to fill the meter pipe to ~104psi for propan...

I don't know if this has been brought up already or not, but at 1x it is telling me the pressure rise for propane should be .59psi, and for MAPP, it should be .29psi. Doesn't MAPP have a higher ratio than propane? It also assumes that the fuel displaces air at 1x. that is not necessarily a bad thing...

The pipes should work, once you find a way to mount them on the terminals. They will have slightly higher resistance than electrical copper, and a higher inductance. They shouldn't vaporize, though. I am running doubled up aluminum sheet on my 3kj bank and nothing has even gotten hot (except for the...
