JSR, I did something like this long ago. I made a big mag with too many BBs. It had weird air flow problems, the mag became the chamber. I guess a more sophisticated /experienced builder may meet with better results.

What lathe was used on this job?

I thought the depleted uranium was for the 4" diameter spud rounds.

Tech, Mike made the slots at an angle from centerline to create a spin. We calculated for slot area much larger than barrel area. He will also incorporate the same style cone we made for Grock's 4" valve. I think there is even rumors of 2 stroke style exhaust ports on the piston to dump the piston ...

Tech, I did see your video in the past. My concern is the accuracy VS. velocity issue. In the BL series of guns, power or more correctly, lack of power has not been an issue. We will see what Mike comes up with. Good point, on the ability of the oversized O-ring to hold and seal in the bore. Still t...

:D Sweet. Would it take much to make them with "Foating" rings? The rings would seal on fireing, but would have very low friction and would work in iron, copper, PVC, and cellular core ABS. I noticed that pistons for PVC, ABS, or iron are not interchangable when I started making piston valves. You ...

Properly set up, airstrippers DO work. The one I made for my airgun (after some fiddling) has cut group sizes approximately in half. :D I'm kinda mixing threads here. The UHMW rounds we were testing look very stable. We want to do some high speed video or photos ala Tech. Check for instability. Tha...

Now this might seem a little far fetched, but do y'all think it would be possible to hollow out the inside and make room for a parashoot? I've seen threads pop up about this subject before, so I think there's a reasonable amount of interest. We have machines that will cut these without human interv...

inonickname, What machines do you have access to? The monoblock design you propose is pretty ambitious. Assuming a bench mill, I think the swivel hammer is the easier to set up. If you are working this job entirely on a lathe, I would go for a plunger type hammer. Look forward to seeing your results.

Gippeto, A bit off topic, I used to do Mach 3. Now, we use all commercial machines. My main VMC is a 24X, 12Y, 18Z with a 10 tool ATC, 8000 RPM 10 hp spindle. Does 800 IPM rapids. Will do 1" endmills in stainless all day..... http://www.ptengineeringllc.com/files/QuickSiteImages/P7070006_op_800x600....

That is true, but they will cost at least $4 each. A 1 inch steel ball bearing will do the same damage for about $1-$1.25 each. and it will be usable 20 times longer than the plastic round. At one point or another, the polyethylene round will fail, aso a lot of people will be using softer targets a...

Yup, that's nice. :D I have to "get me one of them there cnc tools." Have you seen the Steyr airstripper? It would look awesome made for a 2" barrel. Made with two flutes on top, it should give at least some "compensator" type effect. Did I mention it looks "bad ass"? :D Gippeto, Did you mean...

The intent is to gauge interest in the various rounds. The giant lead pellets, though popular, we suspect will be too pricey to sell in quantity. These UHMW rounds will undergo more testing. More sizes will be made. Currently, all are machined on a large CNC lathe. It can handle up to 3.5" OD conti...

I second pizlo's notion. If you could make various sizes for common barrel sizes, I could see these being very popular on this forum. I would be interested in some 3" bore (schedule 40) bullets! Yeah, If you started making these in various sizes, it would definitely draw attention to your site, com...

It does not show in these shots, the muzzle end looks like a heavy sniper barrel. Maybe the barrel should have flutes?
