Ive been spud gunning for a few years now and want to take it to the next level and build a hybrid. I was looking around and noticed that scuba tanks have 3/4 inch threads on them. I was wondering if I could use that as a chamber and have a really long 3/4 inch barrel. I would probly launch empty 12 gram co2 cartriges. (the ones for bb guns) Scuba tanks can hold about 3000 psi for weeks and probly months at a time, so i wont have to worry about it breaking. do you think it will work? if you have any problem with it as far as it working goes, please tell me. ill post it if/when i build it.

The tank won't do a bit of good if the barrel and other components cannot withstand as high a pressure. - A "hybrid" (or <b>any</b> launcher, for that matter) is only as strong as it's weakest link.

Are you sure we're talkin' about an actual "hybrid" here, or were you referring to a pneumatic?

i understnd your point, but yes, a hybrid. i would attach a nipple to the tank and a union to the nipple, and a barrel to the union. i would make a injection system like i have on my combustion (not posted) and have a fill valve for air that will double as a exaust port for misfires. ill try to draw it up in the near future.

one more question, would it be better to have a long skinny chamber or a short fat chamber, or does it really matter if they have the same volume.

have you any clue how tough these scuba tanks are? current estimates for hybrid pressures don't exceed 500psi, yet these babies are rated for at least 6 times that. It's take more than a pressurised propane/air mix to blow it apart.

Is it an aluminium tank? I don't remember where (and search wont work for me) but I seem to remember aluminium has trouble with the gasses caused by a combustion.

Or I could just be going crazy.

duodec- some tanks are aluminum, others are steel. i havnt bought one yet, but it looks like i can get an Ok one for $75 or so one eba i dont think thats true because the m16 is aluminum, most of it is any way. but that uses gun powder, not mapp gas. and that may be true, but i think it would depend on what kind of combustion it was.

Aluminum when exposed in hybrid conditions I heard gets a lot of "white powder" aluminum oxide in the chamber.
