I have a 12 volt air compressure that only works in the car using the lighter adapter. i want to use my air comp. without going into my car to plug it in to the lighter adapter. can someone tell me if this idea works or not. cut the electric cord on my air compressure then i hook it up to a 12 volt battery will the compressure still work or not? thanx!

Yes, although you'll want to use a relatively beefy battery. A 12V lead-acid motorcycle battery should do just fine.

All Electronics usually have sealed lead-acid 12V batteries for pretty cheap.

Another thing you could use as the power source would be a car battery charger. That way you can use household 120V (or 240V depending on where you live). You'll probably need a car battery charger anyway to recharge your 12V battery.
