if you live in an area where sprinkler valves are not common, like i do, you can buy the valves from Joel on this site, just click the components button at the top of the screen, and you can buy them in all different kinds of configurations, i suggest you start with a combustion launcher first as they are safer since the explosion doesnt create as much pressure as a pneumatic does.

stay away from pipes without pressure ratings (XXX psi) and also try to stay away from fittings that arent labeled NSF-PW. make sure you solvent weld correctly http://www.burntlatke.com/weld.html . and wait 24 hours before your first firing. many people also mount their grill ignitors directly in their chambers, dont do that, just tap screws into your chamber wall so the tips are nearly touching inside of the chamber, and solder wires from the contacts on your ignitor to the heads of the screws.

If you are as young as I suspect, you really need to get someone (your parents???) to help you out with this. You won't be making a toy, and if you don't do it right, you can get seriously injured.

Do you mean gas, as in gasoline? Or gas, as in compressed gas? Or gas, as in a flammable gas like propane?

An air compressor? There are tons of types, it just depends on how big you cannon is and how you want to use it. Walmart has sopme down to $15 that you can run off you (or your parents) car, but they are really slow. Then, Walmart again, has some lower end full compressors that would be plenty of power for MOST people for around $50. Then in thena t hardware stores you can find good ones from $120 up.
