Re: Need help
I am planning on using the power of hybrid cannons as a project for my thermodynamics class and pretend to be doing a lot of tests on it. Always the best excuse :) I think you can go a lot simpler by just using a burst disk and fuel by volume (with a syringe) instead of by pressure. Example of a bu...

Electrically driven hammer valve repeater
An old prototype I found digging through some archives.
A motor driven rotor pushes on a stiff steel rod that then whacks a hammer valve. In the test airsoft BBs were being gravity fed into a tee breech.
The valve is opened 6 times per revolution.

Re: Electrically driven hammer valve repeater
Nice electromechanical prototype. I did something similar, is what I showed, (thinking of feeding the automatic hybrid), with an advantage and a disadvantage. The advantage is that it is simpler, and the disadvantage is that I cannot exceed 9 or 10 bar, which is the maximum that the solenoid valve ...

Re: Breech System For historical Pak 36
So tels me what is the rôle of rifling in the brenneke rounds ? It is for stability or something ? In the past most shotguns had fixed chokes at the end of the barrel. Trying to fire a full diameter slug through a choked barrel means it will probably get stuck in the muzzle and blow the barrel. The...

Re: Simple machine gun.
Very interesting! I would be worried about the BBs damaging each other in the magazine though, did you verify that they are intact after a few shots?

Re: Question regarding piston for mini coaxial
Or should I look into using epoxy or a solid rubber one? But that would require me to make an entirely new piston. The epoxy I have right now is kinda thick so to make a piston it probably needs to be thinned down. Thanks for the help. I've had success with a rubber piston even at 850 psi. Easy to ...

Victorian "Air Cane" brought back to life
Here's something a little unusual that I acquired a while back, it took me some time to play with it as I needed to make an adapter for a new chamber and it's only recently that I was able to cut non-standard threads on the lathe. I bought this one without any accessories and with an air reservoir t...

Re: Victorian "Air Cane" brought back to life
Beautiful stick that shoots! It amazes me that it is from the mid-19th century, and it still works, with the repairs and adaptation that you did. It is a pcp from 1860! When you look at it you can see the similarity to a percussion lock , it really is quite fascinating and an interesting bit of his...

Re: Victorian "Air Cane" brought back to life
Sorry to go to the sewers, and divert the topic of the publication a bit. ;) No need to apologize, I'm here for the humor as much as I am for the ballistics ;) How finely have you tried adjusting the distance between the barrel and valve body? The problem struck me while looking at the photos, if y...

Re: Victorian "Air Cane" brought back to life
So when do we get to see the unbalanced spool valve that opens with the anemic 19th century hammer at 3 kPSI? I see you have mastered clairvoyance :D Seriously I can easily replace the CO2 bottle with a 3000 psi tank and making a balanced valve would not be that much of a challenge... I'm just worr...

Re: Victorian "Air Cane" brought back to life
I gave the balanced valve a go and was able to raise firing pressure to 1100 psi. Some initial testing: https://youtu.be/FnSsZp7-18M Best velocity recorded was 774 fps for 59.3 ft lbs, around 50% more than the maximum for the conventional valve. I was a little conservative with the diameter of the b...
