I've been trying to use small water balloons with my 1.5" barrel pneumatic, but even with wadding, low pressure and lubrication, they usually burst. Tied-off sandwhich bags work, but don't burst well on impact. Any ideas?

I can't think of a way to use it in a 1.5 inch maby make a fabric shell or if you turn the barrel to a two inch you can make my sabot that can hold two.

Get some surgcal 1/4 rubber tubbing and get a large syringe and fill it with ur liquid till its under pressure and use plastic cable ties with some smaller 1/8rubber tubing so they dont cut into the larger rubber, this design is like some paint grenades used in skirmish except with out the ball bearings in the ends,if it works let me know because i havent tried it.

I can't figure out any good way to launch water balloons either. I've tried launching gelatin slugs, though. Under lower pressure they usually hold together. Filling a condom with gelatin works quite well, they usually fly a few hundred yards and splat quite nicely. Give it a try. You can use regular jello if you can't get gelatin mix.

Peace,
Pete Zaria.

You might try submerging the waterballoon in a couple inches of saboted water. This ensures that the ballon will not be exposed directly to the ridiculous forces involved in launch, but will instead be supported by hydrostatic pressure.
However, you will have isses shooting horisontaly and lose some preformance due to the extra mass.

Perhaps you could use a very dillute mixture of jello instead of water? This would solve the problem of it leaking out the barrel while aiming.

Wax melts at temperatures below the boiling point of water. (tests to see if boiling water pops water ballons)

No, it doesn't. However, I seriously doubt covering them with wax will do any good.

As to tests, I'v done some:

water ballons filled to ~50ml where put inside a 2" segment of sock, placed ontop of a sabot, and loaded into a 2" barrel. They where launched using a diaphram valve at ~20 psi.

Survival rate was good.

you could also greese the baral

you could use a paper cup opening facing out and cradle the ballon in the cup, u might have to cut the cup down to fit ur barel

Do a water baloon shell. Even made of carbord to fit the barrel. put it in first then the baloon ontop. then when u fire it will push the carbord which will push the baloon.
