I'm going to go check today or tomorrow, I think its probably PN12 because I've never even seen PN15 pipe

at joondalup theres bunnings, total eden, home hardware, tradelink and one other plumbing store I cant remember the name though. The home hardware on winton road is quite good for fittings and the plumbing guy there is a nice bloke but they dont have above PN12 in pipe

OK well thats not a biggy really.

But i was hoping to make most of it out of PN 18 so it can handle some presure, say about 100 to 130 psi and if PN12 can handle that kind of pressure SAFELY (thats the key word) then ill use PN 12.

But i really want ot be able to shot golfballs and if PN 12 is a good fit then ill use that but my only other question is? Is it safe the make the chamber and 2" T section piston out of PN 18 but use a Pn12 barrel if it's the only size that fits golfballs?

Cause i would rather use PN 18 for its pressure rating for safety reasons.

But anyhelp will be appreciated as always.

I actually asked this same question about a week ago because Im replacing my PN18 barrel with a PN12 to fit golfballs, the rest of my gun is PN18 though. What I got told was that because the pressure is in the barrel only for a very short time and that golf balls slide up and down the barrel fairly easily then Its acceptable to use PN12 for the barrel. But I would never use PN12 for a chamber even though other ppl do it and it's probably fairly safe...PN18 is heaps thicker check out this pic of PN18 80mm (40 bucks a meter, and u usually have to buy 6m of it!)

OK thats cool.

And yeah i was goign to get for a 50cm 2" chamber so it had a o.8:1 ratio. This was so i only had to get two different sizes of pipe; 2" PN18 and 1 1/2" PN12. But then i then i thought i might go for 3" chamber for more air capacity then to a 2" elbow then 2" tsection. But if i have to buy a 6m lenght of 3" Pn18 at 40 bucks for 1m i think i might stay with the 2 inch. Unless there is somewhere in perth where i can just get a meter or 2 of it.(Unlikely) But sounds like i'll have to think about chamber sizes if i have to buy 6ms of 3" pipe for $240 (Two word:Puck That!!).

So a golfball fits snugly into a 40mm PN 12 barrel and is safe to use with the rest in PN 18?

And thanks for the help mate.

Cameron

EDIT: DAM!!! i knew it was thick buts thats like thicker then i thought DAM!!!

That sounds a little conservative to me...my cannon, soon to be golf ball cannon's ratio is rougly 5:1

If I was you Ide go with some 65mm PN18 for the chamber, then a 65x50 reducing bush, then some cheaper PN12 50mm (maybe an offcut) just for the join, then the 50x40 reducing bush, so none of your PN12 50mm is showing, its all inside the PN18 fittings, I did this with a 25mm PN12 offcut to save buying a whole meter of more expensive PN18. As long as none of the PN12 is showing and is all covered by the fittings its not going to be any weaker at that join, especially if you put pipe cement in the tiny little gap where the fittings meet.

I beleive you can get 65mm PN18 by the meter, but if you really want 80mm PN18 you should ring around to all the specialty plumbing stores and ask if they will sell you a meter of it, when I got mine they said they wouldnt sell a meter but when he saw the big list of stuff I was gunna get with it I think he didnt want to lose my business and said he would do it this once.

I'm not actually sure yet I'll probably go buy some tomorrow, but I know for a fact it doesnt fit in PN18 and it fits easily into PN9 so I'm pretty sure PN12 is the go.

OK thanks mate for the input ill take it under advisement. So DW.

But my plan for now is; a 50 or 75 cm 65mm chamber with a 65 to 50 mm bushing then 50mm elbow up to a 50mm T section for the piston housing with a 50mm clean out on one end(all this so fair is PN 18 BTW) and a removable 1 m long 40mm PN 12 barrel so i can make a Barrel sealing piston and this is why i was asking the PN 12 with PN 18 since the barrel will be inside the T housing and will have to coup with the same pressure as the other fittings and pipe which is PN 18 (if i am still making sense).

Now that is my plan so far since i don't want a huge spud gun but i want a medium ( i count it as medium) sized spuddie so i can do some damage to a mates bombed out car with some batteries. But this is my plan which is a product of a few other spud guns joined together to make one i like.

But yeah this is what i am aiming for since i made a combustion one and its ok (just really really really loud.) but i am wanting something that can do some damage.:D:D:D

But if you have any suggestions on what i could do to make this better i am open for them.

And thanks for the other idea but i am really looking for a more "compact" design since i have to put it in my room and be able to take it around to mates places.

How does the barrel come off? Is there a separate piece inside the tee contacting the piston which the barrel is screwed onto outside the tee?

Good luck m8

I'm fairly sure they don't make 75mm pipe.

ok firstly; not 75m pipe but 75 CM of 65mm so its 3/4 m long and is 65mm thick.

Secondly; it will have a 50mm male threded adaptor on the 40mm barrel and a 50mm female threaded adaptor on ethir a 50mm thick pipe of the t section with a 50mm female threaded adaptor with 40mm PN12 pipe inside it (if it fits?!?) then ill just be able to screw them both together

thats the basicis of it but ill have to have a play around with it so i can get it right.

I hope you understand it all?

woops I should read things more closely  I understand what you mean about the removable barrel, I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong but 40mm pipe inside a 50mm tee is is cutting it way too close. Also if you end up using a 50mm tee then a 32mm coupler with a little sanding fits in there perfectly for a piston, I used one filled with hot glue in my 50mm piston cannon.

ok i get your point about the piston cutting it a bit close to the 40mm but what size could i use insted of 40mm for the piston to seal against but still be able to have a 40mm golfball barrel. Maybe something like 1 1/4" PN 18 (not sure if you can get it?)

but i am not sure?

Any Surgestions?
