My friend is giving me his red ryder bb gun (don't worry its one of the new ones). In case you don't know, the new reproductions suck in just about every way.I was thinking maybe it could BECOME a respectable air gun. Ya know like able to hit things farther than 10 feet away and capable of breaking something.

you have a red ryder bb gun? dont shoot your eye out. id go and make a bbmg, and try to use the stock from the original gun, it would make it look cleaner. of coruse, a .177 cal bbmg is going to hell to feed, mostly becasue you will end up paying about $15 per minute of shooting, but its a cool toy anyway

Keep the red ryder as it is man. It is not powerfull, nor is it acurate. But it is a classic. It is kind of convenient knowing that you own an airgun that wont go far after it goes through a soda can. I plan to give mine to my daughter when she is old enough.

I concur completely...leave it alone....just keep in clean and oiled. It's easy enough to build something else that actually performs.

Well its in crappy condition anyway. The wood is scratched and banged to hell, and the metal piece that you put under the rear sight to make it adjustable is missing. I'm gonna at least have to finish the wood. I love battlescars as much as the next guy,but not when its low quality wood painted to look good.

I refitted my Red Ryder from my kid days with a nice pecan stock when I got older...I gave it to my son when he was 10 yrs old. He still has it somewhere.

i think u should recondition it. but if u r bent on tearing it apart then i have a few suggestions.
use the barrel for a separate project.
gut it and make it a piston rifle,
paintball rifle,
electro magnetic rifle,
combustion rifle,
pneumatic full auto mag fed water burst assault rifle (good luck).
WHY PAY FOR IT WHEN U CAN MAKE IT?

I guess it is hard to suggest recondition it when they are 30 bucks new at walmart. I know the barrel would be usefull in a future project, I have gutted a few broken bb guns for the barrel. Still, I hate to see a classic die when it still works.
