I think he is trying to keep them fairly simple for cost reasons.

Anyways, what exactly is the point of the floating piston for ammo? why does it have to be low friction? The ammo is only going to move once, and that is when it leaves the barrel. Seems unnecessary.
Also, I don't thing flaring the edge is such a good idea. What happens when the projectile hits the ground and that delicate edge gets scuffed up? It won't seal well anymore. Orings seal perfectly each time and are easily replaceable.

uranium! Ahaha! Yeah man, I saw these rounds on your web site and I am really impressed. As soon as I get a chrony I am going to just have to get some of these for fps testing. Also, these rounds can serve as a universal standard for the entire community to use and compare accuracy, velocity and distance of our cannons. It would make an excellent standard round that eliminates the variability in performance due to different ammo use. We used a Daewoo Puma 240. The bar feeder in the background is for smaller parts since it uses a collet.

It would be sweet to see some higher end cannons with high power.
