It's a common idea to want to shoot CO2 cartridges as self-propelled "rockets" and I've always dismissed the idea but at the urging of LeMaudit it transpires that an 8 gram Soda Stream cartridge fits almost exactly in the bore of a 12 gauge shotgun, so some quick machining later, hilarity ensured:

Interesting your video. I imagine a small rocket launcher , to attach at the base of some more "normal" weapon, compressed air or hybrid.
It is impossible to calculate the trajectory of the rocket when the target passes or is diverted by it. Body to earth without hesitation!

Thanks guys. I suppose this could merit some development with folded fins for stability, or something that directs the escaping gas at an angle to spin it up, but ultimately there's no real power in it so it's less interesting from my perspective.

In my opinion, this type of projectile needs time to accelerate, because when it leaves the canyon, the initial velocity is low, and as time passes, it increases rapidly. With a gyroscopic stabilization system or fins, or something that keeps the "nozzle" parallel to the trajectory, and an objective at a great distance, the speed would undoubtedly be much, defined by the velocity of the jet multiplied by the mass flow. It behaves in the reverse of an air weapon ammunition.

My favorite variant of this kinetic rocket concept on a slightly larger scale is LOSATRather than inert bullets, Gyrojets fire small rockets called Microjets which have little recoil and do not require a heavy barrel or chamber to resist the pressure of the combustion gases. Velocity on leaving the tube was very low, but increased to around 1,250 feet per second (380 m/s) at 30 feet (9.1 m). The result is a very lightweight weapon.

When I tried this I had similar results. I tried adding mass to the nose, tried some poorly made fins, and I think my long barrel helped, but never got more than 150 feet (measuring straight... projectile often covered much more than that in various directions)
Perhaps with enough mass on the nose and a long enough barrel the co2 will be expended before leaving the muzzle.
The other option is to open a larger hole. I used a spring loaded spike but perhaps a guillotine style is the way to go...
Or maybe flash heating muhahahahaha!
