It does improve things. Not as much as rifling, but it does mean each projectile has a predictable spin, rather than picking up a random one and just hooking off in any old direction.

well wouldn't it be almost as good as rifling? I figured since wouldn't it stabilizes the ball in both axis? The Backspin would stop it from developing side spin and it would also cancel out gravity for a limited amount of time if tuned correctly.

All this talk about spinning makes me want to launch a baseball and try to tweak it so that it looks like a supernatural, wicked curve pitch or a sinker.

No, it will spin whatever way you out the hop up. In my airsoft gun, if I shoot it upside down, it dives. If I shoot sideways, it goes to the side.

... in one plane, perhaps, but not along the direction of travel, which is the sort of spin that rifling provides...
