You can't deny though that a radiator made from cans of XXXX would certainly give him a lot of street cred (plus an excuse, if any were needed, to empty the cans )POLAND_SPUD wrote:but I don't think it's the best idea to waste time how to optimize flow through the tool box or how to build a ghetto radiator if you can simply use a more powerful fan

I has got a 4L air tank rated to 200 bar!!! (though it's not the same I mentioned a couple of weeks ago... but it has ASA threads too (female))
ohh jsr I included my foot in the pic... it's with a sock on because that makes it even more sick
any idea how to prepare it for dealing with lots of moisture ??
I think I've asked this question earlier.. I need to first clean the inside with something that dissolves oils, let it dry and then pour in some sort of paint right?? lol but what paint ?
ohh BTW where can I get a bolt captive pistol ??

Nice
yeah...
yeah...

A fine example of 'not the best option' is the xbox 360, this has two fans blowing air through a plastic duct straight onto the CPU and GPU (so far so good) and then just a few randomly placed holes in the case to vent it(not so good) combined with all the other thermal inadequacies the red ring of death problem is not too surprising. With high power used in overclocked machines simply sticking a fan on it is not the best solution. Venting the heat out of the box is.
I'd agree the important factor is good air flow through the whole system, my point was this can not be achieved with just sucking air out. Take the following picture for example, this is designed for the fans to blow through the heatsink and they work very well. Reverse the fans to suck and you won't get much cooling, stick another pair on the end to suck and you will see an improvement but less than twice as good:
(sorry about the hijack)

for only 40NZD... but this stuff is usually quite expensive... sure I wouldn't mind if it had larger capacity but at least I can carry it on my back adn take it with me wherever I want
ohh BTW I almost finished my new setup.. well not that much new as upgraded... I haz the biggest fan I could get pics soon

Since one of the 80mm fans is glued to the toolbox, I only swapped around the 80mm and 120mm fans and covering the top two vents and i'm giving them half an hour to see if there's a difference.
Hurry up and upload your pictures
What did you use for cooling before your new setup? I guess in winter you don't have to bother haha.
Oh and would it be better if I also bent the intake tube so it was outside of the toolbox and would take in fresh air not, potentially, warm air from inside the box?

it did get hot but at a slower rate... earlier I used a PC fan, and a couple of thin copper plates glued to the case... I could see that the fan helped a bit but the plates were annoying (the fridge looked like metal hedgehog with them on) and they didn't work as good as I hopedI guess in winter you don't have to bother
tomorrow... nothing worth showing really, just a fridge in a bucket... but the fan is great.. it has slightly smaller OD than the ID of the bucket and it has a sort of lip so it fits the bucket perfectly... I am sure it can keep it coolHurry up and upload your pictures
I don't know... if you get large enough fan you won't have to worry about thatwarm air from inside the box

Im afraid an open fridge compressor is on the floor right next to me, still capable of doing its job.POLAND_SPUD wrote:@psycixI am afraid you can't... you'd have oil flying everywhere...You could also take the compressor out of the casing. Makes it less heavy too
plus the casing serves quite a lot of other useful functions too

Why is underpresssure better than overpressure?jackssmirkingrevenge wrote:The larger fan probably puts in more air than the small ones combined, so better to have it pulling out to avoid an overpressure inside.
I'd say the increased density of the air with overpressure would make be more capable of transferring heat. The pressure differences are minimal though.
I'd set it up something like this:
| ^fan^
| Compressor <fan<
However, make sure all air that goes out of the top HAS to pass the compressor. In the pics you posted with all the fans in the sides, the big fan will exhaust air out of the right hole which doesn't even pass the compressor! So put the fan in the left side, a fan in the right hole in the top, and close the left hole.
Maybe it would be even more effective to do:
| -big hole-
| Compressor <multiple fans next to each other<
Two parallel fans have more flow than two fans in series.

well it was mentioned here... or it was mentioned in the other forum this guy contributed to... anyway this guy suggest it tooI'm afraid an open fridge compressor is on the floor right next to me, still capable of doing its job.

edit
oh damn he proves it.. not only mentions it... have a look at 6:00
anyyway, the case serves some other useful purposes too
no pics of mine yet... I am pretty much as % as it is possible

Still no pics POLAND?
I'm now thinking a little bigger...radiator fans
They're not too expensive really. Seems people don't notice a difference if they suck or blow.
If the only option is to have one fan, in this case a radiator fan, I assume it would be better blowing air on to the compressor rather than sucking?
If you had a box which had no sides. Compressor in the middle, fan at one end with the other end open. If the fan is sucking or blowing it seems that it would be efficient enough.
edit:
Turns out my friend might hook me up with a radiator fan. Probably between 9-12" in diameter. Hope it's electric. I saw one fan that was 9" and drew 7.5 amps, pretty sure I don't have a transformer which can handle more than 2 amps at 12v. So a little problem there but I'll look around, my dad probably has one somewhere.

lol sorry I don't have much time ATM
as I said eariler, it's as simple as it gets... a plastic bucket with a hole cut in the bottom for cables and tubing...
the fan fits the bucket perfectly... I just have to remove the lid from the bucket and put it there... but I haven't done it yet (I haven't wired it yet)
@mrcrowley
good thinking I've got a radiator fan too but I decided to use this one as it runs straight off 220V
EDIT
ohh btw sorry that everything is so dirty but I didn't have time to clean it yet

well who said that overkill is a bad thing...?
