okay I bought the valve that has been discussed here
http://www.spudfiles.com/forums/asco-2- ... 12407.html
nice 1 1/2" pilot actuated valve, sorry guys bought the last one
okay I got it yesterday and I tested it with this shameful testing system made from my first gun,

I actuate it by removing the quick connect, I shot this crude thing I made from a screw and a bunch of washers and pipe bits

some stuff I put on the front broke but after those trials (which I didn't know what happened) I couldn't penetrate the 3/8"? plywood target

you probaly got such bad results because of the size of your barrel its way too short. And do even now if a that cannon could pentrate 3/8'' plywood with a better valve. The testing is not conclusive at all you need to compare it to something else like a sprinkler valve
Edit:yaa 300 spudbuks now I can get a signature

The air chamber is tiny.
I made on about that size for mod sprinkler/GB barrel. I could throw the ball as far as it shot.
I got my 1 1/2 valve yesterday. Right now I'm drawing what I want.
Thinking black iron pipe...

Well i have one of these valves and i am not surprised by your results only because you gun it built horribly. I bet a sprinkler valve would performe less.

Tiny barrel, tiny chamber, bad piloting, the results were to be expected. Also, what pressure were you shooting at?

Bad piloting shouldn't matter much since the actual exhaust valve is built into the main valve.
I agree with others that the tiny barrel is your main problem. Also, if your filling from the pilot then it probably will take a bit for all the pressure to equalize into the chamber. So it may be that you weren't really shooting at the pressure that you thought you were shooting at.
