Indestructible Baloons
Ok so today i get this idea that if you fill ballons with flour you get a piece of ammo that "explodes" when it hits a hard surface right?
But then you think that the force of the initial shot would pop the ballons in the barrel, and you will get a white flour cloud out the end, right?
WRONG!
All that happens is that the flour ballons get realy flat!
What went wrong?

doesn't sound as if anything went wrong. the balloon wasn't stretched far enough for it to rupture.

I filled a plastic bag with flour and shot it at a tree, it exploded in a puff of white "smoke".
I think they key is to fire at an abrasive surface that shreds your vessel.

I've thrown balloons of water about 30ft upwards and watched them bounce on concrete...
The skin has to be under a lot of tension or has to be physically punctured for it to burst on impact.
I'd go with turbos version for a more guaranteed burst, plastic shopping bags are much less stretchy and will rip quite easily.

Try using the real long balloons that are for making balloon animals. They won't be as round so they'll be able to fit in a smaller diameter barrel

Actually, I was using one of those "Ziploc" bags. Same idea applies though.Hotwired wrote:

the key is a container that splits or cracks, not a abrasive surface. the baloon deforms, but doesnt break. the plastic bag broke because it easily splits, most likely on a seam.

If it just got flat and didnt rupture, your gun just wasnt powerful enough.
What did you shoot it with?

What did you shoot it with?
a combustion, from 2meters. Its powerfull enough to Launch appels 250m.
And at times a bunch of stones through the sound barrier. crunches deo cans, and anialates Cellphones frozen in ice. Not Powerful enough, pft

Try shooting at an angle, the inertia may just pin the flour to the wall.

I find it hard to belive that you broke the sound barrier with a gun that cannot bust open a balloon.
to break the sound barrier, you need a hybrid or a pneumatic powered by a lighter than air gas, like helium.

It seems to me that your balloon was not inflated enough and your cannon was not powerful enough. Try using the "water balloon" balloons. They have a really thin shell and I have yet to have one burst when impacting a target (using a 1.5" barrel).Spitfire wrote:What went wrong?
