How do you cement rubber?

Hi,

Does anyone know a reliable way to glue/cement rubber?

I know there is one Loctite product (name / number?) that is often used for making O-rings on the fly. Does that also work for larger surfaces?

Any other suggestions are also welcome.

Regards
Soren

Most people use Epoxy.

Loctite is just some icky gooey stuff that you smear on the threads of a bolt or the likes that hardens to keep it from coming unscrewed, though I suppose it could be used instead of PTFE tape on small fittings.

The Loctite company makes many kinds of adhesives.

Use rubber cement, works great.

I'm not sure if contact cement is the same as rubber cement, but I used contact cement to attach the sealing face to the piston for my "marshmallow" gun.

It has not failed yet.

It was LePages. The evil, solvent based kind. :)

Hi,

OK, rubber cement; that sound plausible, haha. Problem is, I see all kinds of Loctite etc. products where I get my pneumatic parts, but nothing called rubber cement. OK I will ask.

Thanks for the answers.

You can get rubber cement where ever you can buy auto tire plugs or inner tube patchs. Sorry, I should have said that.

Actually certain types of cynocrylate(aka super glue) will work(depends largely on whether or not you buy the gel or liquid types). I know in the US Elmers glues makes a super glue especially for rubbers and vinyls. Super glue should be at any general store.

For heavy duty stuff go to a marine parts supplier. They should have a large supply of different adhesives. You name it, you can get a glue for it.
