1/2" Sabots

I took a trip to Linens 'n Things the other day (don't ask me why...) and I came across these. They're little plastic tubes that you fill with water and freeze so you can get ice that fits in water bottles. They come in a case of 16 for under $4. Each tube has 2 blue snap on caps at each end. They're about 3.5" long.
With the caps on, the tubes fit very well inside 1" sch40 PVC. I've been trying to come up with ideas for what to do with them. So far all I thought of was to put a rolled up note inside and blast it over to a neighbor's house. The note would read "keep your f*cking kids off my lawn!"
But the best part is that with the caps off, the tubes themselves fit very tightly inside a 1/2" socket.
I'm brainstorming ideas right now for a simple, compact "shotgun" that would make use of these shells or sabots... whatever you want to call them. I was thinking that I could replace what would be a barrel with a 1/2" coupling and simply plug preloaded shells in and fire. They fit tightly enough that they shouldn't fly out during firing, and the length of the tube should accomodate a good number of airsoft bb's plus cotton wadding at each end.
It would easy to prepare the shells and even easier to load them. If I can come up with a launcher small enough, I might even share this on some of the airsoft forums I go on. They might like something like this.
