hey, first off I wasn't sure what to call this, and I don't know if this is the right place for it.

Anyway, I had this carboard tube laying around my room and out of curiosity I decided to see if it would fit over the 3/4" pvc barrel for my pneumatic. It slid on perfectly, and fits just right. I took a 1" dowel piece that was originally an old experimental projectile (never used) and stuck that in the end as a nose cone; the fins are just cut carboard hot-glued on.

edit- also, has this been done before?

I think the preasure will blow the tube apart before it even comes off of the 3/4'' pvc.
You can tell how awesome a cannon is by the pressure used.

ya, i was thinking that. What pressure do you think it will take before shredding and what would be a good way to reinforce it?

No, it will not blow the tube apart. I have even used those tubes for barrels, and they didnt blow apart.

I have tried that with my ½" launcher at 35bar without the cardboard failing.. the results were not impressive in any way, just one of those things you have to try :D

Enamel paint tends to put a nice shell on cardboard tubes, you could also wrap it with tape. Do a search on PVC Rockets, you will learn a lot.

Edit: I voted yes, it will work. Experiment with the pressures, 10psi, 20psi so on.

"this" being a projectile over the outside of the barrel? Yes, D_Hall made one that used one of these the toy rockets on a more conventional type gun.

no-limit also made little air powered rocket launchers.

(Water activated) Gum Tape Like pic, Is some nice stuff for making cardboard tubes.
Or cleaning up the electrical tape part (Use it instead)
Just put a layer lengthwise around a dowel or similar after applying water from a sponge.
Or wet it and glue it onto the cardboard tube.
I made a model rocket that way once. Pretty cool stuff. 8)
