Sorry for the noob question but I have been to Home Depot, Lowe's, and Ace Hardware here in San Diego and they don't carry anything bigger than 2" PVC. Where do you guys get them?

Thanks

Lowes, Home Depot, and Ace Hardware rarely have anything of too much interest (come to think of it, neither does San Diego).

I suggest getting out the Yellow Pages and looking for irrigation/plumbing stores.

Both Lowes and Home Depot, in my area anyway, carry 2' lengths of pressure rated 3" and 4" pipe, usually in a little rack out in the aisle....enough to build most combustion chambers and air tanks for medium sized spudders.

If you can't find that, your only choice is your closest commercial plumbing supply house, and then you may have to purchase in 20' lengths. Take a truck and a handsaw with you to cut it in half.

My home depot has entire humongous aisle of pvc and other pipe. I can get either 2 foot sched. 40 sections of 4" or 10 foot sections of sched. 40 4" or about 5 other kinds of 4" pipe.

I wouldn't use those 10' sections, those are far more likely to be DWV than pressure rated, I can tell you that.

I order ALL of my oversized pipe from Fastenal, but I do keep a healthy stock of 2' 3" sections handy. There pretty useful. A while back I ordered some 3" fittings from them. Came in the day they said it would and they were in great condition. I would warn you, the price it says in the catalog is for one unit, not whatever the package number is. I made that mistake myself, ending up with a surplus inventory of 3" fittings (not that that's bad, I mean).

SEAKING, I love you with every fiber of my being!!!!!!!!!! I thought, once I moved up to Corvallis, that I would never be able to find a good supplier within walking distance of my dorm. Until today, I didn't know there was a Fastenal just down the street! :D :D :D

we have up to 6" sch 40 at home depot and 8" sch 40 at meynards (5 & 10 ft sections) 8" (about $90 for 10', if my memory serves me well) is more nose-bleed in cost and 6" is too rich for my blood at the moment. i split my purchases between meynards and HD, meynards has a better selection of sch 40 adapters/reducers (here, IL), HD will sell 2' sections of sizes up to 4" dia cheap(er).

the largest thing i'd carry/shoot would probably be a 4" CC @ 18" to 24" length, then play with barrel combos (i'd need a roof rack for barrels)

McMaster is nice, but not if you aren't allowed to order over the internet. That's what Fastenal is for. They have craploads of locations, and if you pick up a free catalog (Which is HUGE, by the way) you can run through a great selection of fittings and pipe.

Unfortunately, they do not carry any SDR schedules.
