hey i was wondering if anyone new a way to make an airburst round, doesn't have to be explosive, but one that opens up in the air, not right out of the barrel or on impact, i have done one with a firecracker, but that is not legal here lol

Sure, tie a string to a projectile to trigger it to burst at a set distance.

I brought it up in another other thread about airburst projectiles: http://www.spudfiles.com/forums/air-bur ... 14738.html

Seaking9006 actually made a working airburst projectile cannon though: http://www.spudfiles.com/forums/ca3-pda ... 15430.html

I have a prototype that is designed to go off using a pneumatic timer that is not a burst disk or susceptible to temperature variances. It is still considered classified. I will have to share at a later date. Works great as a hand thrown device timer as well.

(As if speaking to the topic of 'Airburst' itself)
Hello, old friend. How are you?

Anyway, yes I did make a working AB system. And though the shots I got on camera wern't with full powder loads, when it was completely topped off the cloud was quite spectacular. I haven't shot the thing in ages though.

But, I AM working on the design theory behind an electronically-timed airburst round using inexpensive PIC microcontrollers and a laser rangefinder (when I'm not busy, that is). A few issues I still have to get solid are the method of opening the payload, the rangefinder itself, and the final design of the launcher. It's going to be a challenge to get the coding done, because I'm taking a class that uses the particular PIC's I want to use, but because of a recent incedent involving military history research being done on school computers, I am still trying to figure out how I'm gonna do that class. Not that I'm really focusing on this project, anyhow... A bunch of my friends are starting an airsoft club, so I'm trying to get back into the weapons manufacturing business fairly quickly. I'm working on a simple semi-auto rifle that uses a double action trigger and hammer to hit a hammer valve and fire BB's from a STANAG-type AEG magazine with a blow-back rotating bolt. I see all these designs on here for 'popoff machineguns' and 'self-resetting hammer valves', and I think we need to stop reinventing the wheel. A good old hammer-and-pin system will work flawlessly. And once I get a prototype built, I'm going to cast my parts in plastic. Of course, spare parts will be cheap.
