Let me guess. It is either some kind of valve or pipe.. Am I right?
A photo would be helpful. The mark simply indicates it was tested by a standards organization.

National food safety in accordance with the american national standards institute standards.
they have a habbit of saying things backwards. NSF = national food safety while ISO = international organization for standardization
weeeeeird
EDIT: all it means is its pressure rated and safe for use around food. Don't try to eat it though.

Actually "NSF" stands for "National Sanitation Foundation". Which I believe is actually "
National Sanitation Foundation,
International"

. They do the specs for fresh and waste water systems as well as food handling safety specifications.
Most PVC pipe in the US will have an NSF, or NSF/ANSI, or ... some such rating on it.
Didn't there used to be a spudwiki entry or forum sticky on how to "read" the labelling on typical PVC pipe? ASTM numbers etc?

I once heard a parable to comfort people in these humnling situations:
"When the monkey in the field looks about and steps to the left, and then to the right, then they shall see the crow take flight. For we are all living waters, running blindly in the night"
