I'm looking for an attachment to buy (or make) for my lathe that can emulate or create a ground finish. I tried using an aluminum oxide stone though got poor results.

Any ideas?

What do you mean by "ground finish"? Getting rid of the cicle marks a lathe cut will leave when you draw the bit across the face to fast???

Sounds like he's looking for a tool post grinder and doesn't know what to call it. (keywords make google work so much better eh!)

I've also seen dremel flex tools used as tool post grinders.

Here is a simple way to finish a piece of work. Use a 90 deg end on a tool bit and grind the top face at an angle so that it looks like the square in the drawing as the working face is toward you. Feed it very slowly until it starts to get a little bit of swarf and then run it along the work piece.

or use a really slow power feed with a finish cut tool ( rounded tip)

I was more looking for a toolbit that could simply be held and advanced along the work as usual, though with a "spark out" ground finish. I may make a simple tool to clamp a very fine (1-2k grit) wet and dry piece which can be advanced onto and across the work.
