Cheap and dirty cardboard sabot nail dart.

Cut some cardboard disks with a piece of sharpened barrel tubing, hot glue them to the head of the nail, hot glue T shirt tail.

They flies straight and true however, not as fast as the shotshell sabot that has a better barrel seal.

This dart is in the ~600 fps range even though it weighs less than the shotshell hull design.

IOW A cheap, quick dart, that weighs more than 10 times heavier than an air rifle springer pellet and yet it goes at the same speed.

The cardboard has some potential:

Add more disks for a better seal.

Curve the first one into a nose for aero.

I've used the lid off a pop bottle. It is stiffer and less mass. I'm working on softening them to custom mold them to my barrel sizes.

A 12 Gauge shotshell hull is the exact size for 3/4" type L copper tubing.

With a little work, I remove the steel primer holder, remove the used primer, and using a wood mold, I can force the heated plastic to re size it to the original diameter.

12 Gauge shotshell hulls are available to me from a skeet shooting range in almost unlimited numbers.

For the work involved, the cardboard disks are very advantageous.

They resemble a leather piston from a hand pump when greased up.
