Yea it will, your not trying to make it like a plane wing but more of a propeller. Still i think it is unnecessary and probably wont have much affect on the projectile.

Ah, gotcha the propeller's idea!
It's really not a big deal to add, so why not.

I think the Tall Boy fins where bended to induce this rotation. Now where did I read that... JSR, were are you when we need you!?

[edit] Ah yes, Wikipedia say the fins were given a slight twist so that the bomb spun as it fell. I cannot do a twist accurately (I would need to design some specific jig for that), but I can do the bevel.

The tail is completed. With some holes for magic effects.

It must be fired! :D It's only bits of metal you know... true, shiny and all, but still... it's from my scrap box... plenty more from there. Aluminum and brass machined pieces have a strong tendency to look pretty by themselves... in fact, my wife start seriously to look at those shiny bits... must be the gold color....

To me it's the perfect project to machine again, I didn't do anything in years. And I'm again starting to enjoy it. I will seriously thing about converting my gun project from paper drawing to sculpted metal soon ;-)

Sexy!

The problem with optimised projectiles is that when well done, they are usually too beautiful to shoot.

As to inducing rotation, I personally wouldn't - ie fins must be parallel to the centreline and their edges should be tapered symetrically. Rotation uses up forward kinetic energy, increasing drag and reducing velocity retention.

It will be shot! :P

I will try the magic powder stuff when I do shoot it, perhaps I'll get lucky and it will increase the already slim chances of finding it.

Got a metal detector? Paint it florescent orange. Shoot it into a green area (grass).

you should put your name and numbers and a message on it thats like, if you find it please return to blah blah blah. just incase you don't find it and someone els does. Maybe put something like its a science thing and please record where you found it.
