If you don't want marks on your knuckles, you need a different design.
If you hit something with some firce while wearing these you will probably break your fingers..

There are some posts where he details the manufacture.

Also it doesn't have to be all steel, you could make it say brass with steel inserts.

Try ripping open an old PC, the cooling blocks on the CPU usually have a 1/2" thick bottom plate.

Here's a rather strange commission, a miniatureDewar flask to keep something small very cold. An ice bullet perhaps :D
