You can not use lead for the fins and body due to the weight. I'm guessing that since they are only supported at the base, on acceleration the metal body skews to one side and these torsion forces are enough to break the fins. Back to the drawing boardtaofledermaus wrote:Darts: shot- results
We shot the darts today. None of them worked. It seemed the fins were stripped off or broke off at the moment they left the barrel, so the rods just tumbled through the air. The 3 bolts that you made worked very well, and were pretty accurate. They flew perfectly straight, so it isn't all bad news.

Nope, shattered. He said in the slow mo the fins and shredded wad came out before the bolt.How are the fins attached? I am thinking the fin assembly seperated rather than breaking the fins.
This is what he had to test, apparently only 3, 4 and 5 were successful, the rest shattered in the barrel.Which ones were the bolts he referred to?
The balle sauvestre uses two sabot "petals" and seems to work well enough.Jsr, i like the new desine,but i think that the dart itself will not fly right if you dont have deterline fourths so that the wings dont get caught.
