Anyone know of a good place to get .177 barrels? I need to get a length of about 9" to make a silencer for my pellet/bb gun I got in a box of guns and parts. Its fairly loud, so it would be nice to put a silencer on it so I can shoot at night.

You don't need .177 barrel to make a silencer... Just get some brass tube as close to the pellet as you can, and drill holes in that. Drilling holes in a .177 barrel would be difficult in the first place, plus I think drilling into rifling would mess things up quite a bit. But first, how were you planning on perfectly aligning the silencer with the gun barrel? That's the essential part.

On the bb gun I have, the barrel itself stops about an inch from the muzzle, so I would slide the silencer into that area and have an outer shell to support it on the outside of the muzzle. Kinda hard to explain...

Makes sense actually. Still, I'd go with a smoothbore silencer, as I see no sense in having rifling in a silencer. But I'm sure JSR will chime in with a baker's dozen links to existing examples which prove me wrong

I hope he does. I don't care if its rifled or not, I just need a barrel. I am shooting at about 950-1050 fps, so I really need to quiet this gun...

If I were him, I'd make the main part of the silencer smooth bore with a mandrel and epoxy casting, but at the end I'd throw in a tiny bit (about an inch or so) of choked, rifled barrel section. I believe in most pellet guns, the last inch or so is the most important part of the barrel, so you could at least preserve that. I believe there's an example on a Beeman air pistol that has a twisted barrel, but the end is choked with rifling to maintain accuracyGun Freak wrote:Makes sense actually. Haha, Gun freak knows me well... I would cut up my barrel instead of trying to find 1" of .177 rifled barrel... I will try a smooth bore, but I still need to know where to get the materials for the barrel.

1/4" brake line is *close*. It might be over-sized a couple hundredths. I suppose you could drill out a bolt with the right sized bit, but you'd have to do a pretty damn good job lining it up.
Typically, "toy" bb guns just have a plate of metal wrapped around a mandrel; in most cases the seam isn't even welded shut. Try finding an old daisy lever action at a yard sale or something if brake line isn't close enough.

Tried Crosman? There's a crap load of Crosman dealers in the US.
I've used this one in the past...not sure if Allan is back shipping parts or not just yet.

For once, I actually agree with you.Gun Freak wrote:I'm sure JSR will chime in with a baker's dozen links to existing examples which prove me wrong
Warhead, pictures of your setup will lead to better advice. Also, if you're taking about a spring piston airgun, note that a significant proportion of the noise is coming from the piston and spring twang, and this effectively cannot be suppressed.

Its a daisy 880 powerline multipump. The stock is missing, and it leaks slightly out of the chamber, but it still functions. Fairly loud for what I have shot. Comparable to a .22 or even a 9mm.
