I have always wanted to make a nice piston valve, but the only one I knew how to make required a lathe. I don't have a lathe.

I want to make a three inch version of Brian the Brain's no o- ring piston valve. http://www.spudfiles.com/forums/viewtop ... 385b5e4161

I know I can get the sheet from mcmaster, but I do not know which one will work.

That is a pretty sweet design

Anyone have an answer to my question?

Using Chaos's design, you would not need to purchase a neoprene sheet. If you have a different design in mind however, I would suggest something like:
  • 1/8" thick
    60A-70A Durometer Rating
Smooth on at least one surface
No need for any under strict tolerances (they will just cost more)

Yes, it will. Although here is something that is about half again as cheap:
