Would you rather wait 24 hours, and have a guaranteed* leak-proof cannon up to and above 100 PSI, or risk it and fill it to 40 PSI now, only to have a piece blow out or a leak develop, and now you need to buy all new parts, glue them together, AND wait 24 hours. The choice is yours.
*If you solvent welded correctly.

You definately need to wait 24 hours. Whe I built my first piston gun, I couldn't wait to shoot it, so I only waited 1 hour. When it got up to 65 psi, the endcap on the chamber blew off, leaving a large hole in my garages drywall walls. Lesson learned.
