Whats the diffrence between dwv or what ever its called and pvc?

dwv is pvc, it just cheap pvc. presure rated pvc is a much higher quality and is much stronger.

PVC- polyvinyl chloride, is just that, PVC. DWV and PW refer to the ratings of the joints, namely the depth of the sockets. Cell core is just foam pvc basically and does not carry any pressure rating. SCH 40/80 refer to wall whickness, and therefore pressure. but you can have SCH-40 DWV, and it'll still be failure prone.

oh. thanks, i always thought that DWV and PW refered to the pressure rating, or lack thereof.

well, its always a good idea to get pipe that says PW, and you must for joints.

Rule of thumb: it it says PW, its good. if it says DWV, dont get it. if it says nothing, ask.

well i dont think im gonna ast anyone who works at the lowes or homedepot near my house seeing as they never seem to know what the hell im talking about. i need to look for a plumbing suply store around here...

Also while at the hardware store always look at the box. if you need a elbow don't just grab one look for pw.

Our local lowes has all the pressure rated stuff on one wall of the aisle, and all the DWV stuff on the other side of the wall.

It's pretty convienent.

What is the difference between pipe marked "not for pressure" and the pipe which has a pressure rating on it? I'm not talking about cellcore pipe here; at my local Lowes, there is solid pipe marked "not for pressure". What makes it not for pressure, and what is the difference between it and pressure rated pipe?
