hey evrbody, had me a idea.
i have very successfully been shooting 1" rubber balls, and at the same time been experimenting with lead casting.
now how difficult do you think it would be to,
say,
cast a rubber 1" bullet shape from melted rubber, also at what temp would a standard super ball melt and not smoke or ignite. i have searched the internets thouroughly and have as yet not found even the vaugest idea of melting temp. (all i get, is that different formulae would likely melt at different temps, but no specifics) all i really need is a basic range and can experiment from there.
plus the wife would likely kill, maim, or leave me if i smoke up the kitchen with molten toxic rubber fumes.

y dont u just go out side and try melting them at different temps just use the suff u use to heat the lead up to cast it it should work if u try it a a low temp just expeirement

well, the lead melts at just under 350*C, and dosen't give off toxic vapors untill around 400*C so mostly i just set the oven and leave it untill melted, but with rubber the smoke point, or for that matter the ignition point is much lower and i dont want another "episode"
i also considered a double boiler, like when melting wax, but that will only get to about 200*C and i am really just trying to avoid a mess or even a fiasco

o well just put a ball in a steel can and go outside with a propane torch and measure the temp with a termometer

Look up RTV silicone and use that. Most rubbers just burn so you can't remould them.

plus, epoxy would want to "grab" your barrel as much, resulting in less friction and better performance.

thanx alot guys, btw how long, i wonder, does rtv silicone take to cure. oh and i could try fiberglass resin with hardener. Oh brave new world with such people in it!

Only one word of warning: fibreglass resin sticks! Be sure to use some severe lube/oil/whatever on the inside of the tube before putting it in. I have made this mistake before! I use cooking spray for my hotglue pistons, maybe that would work?

Depends on the type you buy - some take 20mins, some overnight - 3days.

That's kind of the point of the resin (either epoxy or the cheaper polyester).I'd recommend you buy a proper mould release rather than cooking spray.

Rubber on most any material usually yields a very high coefficient of friction. Usually up around 1.5 or 2.

You'd be much better off making ice slugs if you must form your own ammo. Or you could shoot off C-Batteries.

I would agree with Modder... it seems like a lot of trouble to go to and also a lot of expense. I have been making ice slugs for a while now and I can say this, they can do some sweet damage.
I use a 2' diameter barrel, for this I have found that a toilet paper roll(once finished) fits perfectly down the barrel.
I then get a small "freezie" plastic bag- point a corner out the bottom. Fill it to to top side of the roll and tie off then place(hanging) in freezer.

Thats a sick idea dude. Then it's allready got it's own nose-cone.

Someone should make a negative mold of a small, finned rocket. Make an ice tray out of it and make ice rockets. Put a bolt inside for extra weight.

that would be a sweet idea it would do great damage but what about the fins u would need wading
