Why wont they let you get one? A tiny buzz box inst that much and if you follow safety rules you should be fine.

Heres a good sales pitch -- Tell them if you have a mig welder you can use it to fix the family car after your driving lesson.

I was also trying to get one for christmas. Same deal parents didn't want me to get one, although I kinda just gave up. I really wish I could weld there's so much more I could make. Just tell them that you could be doing way worse things, ask them if they would rather you ask for a bong.

I think the: "You should really be supporting me in this, do you know how much machinists and welders get paid?" argument would work well.

Of course, all spudders have a different idea about Christmas to most people. The presents are pneumatic fittings, regulators, gas welders, stun guns and pipe with us.
Does that thing kinda look like a big cat to you?

You can only use soldering irons for like connecting wires. You can use a blow torch and soldering for copper, but I don't know about brass. If he wants a MIG welder I assume he plans on using more than brass.

the benefits of a mig welder include:

better utilization of materials for projects for school. (physics, design tech)

Nice piece to put on your resume.

less trips to your metal or repair shop.

Thats just too true..Apparantly, i am a really difficult person to buy presents for, so i have to tell absolutely everyone what i want, on my birthday, i got my friends to buy me about £50 worth of fittings and a QEV and whatnot, it was money well spent.

you need to start thinking like an artist. parents like things like that. if you were to start sculpting metal objects that just didn't hold together. take a real interest in blacksmithing and describe it as a forgotten art.

you'll probably need some oxy/acetylene torches also, maybe a nice anvil, definitely a forge.

be more creative than , i can fix things.
