When I made this post, I was sort of thinking more like "Dead Rising" zombies. I think that game was banned in Australia, so if you don't know what it is, look here. Although, now that you mention it, I wonder what would happen if they were more like headcrabs (HL2) or "The Flood" (the Halo trilogy).
Lol, It's funny to think of how many good zombies come from videogames.

That depends. Most zombies are rather hardy, considerably more so than humans.
With humans, you can actually kill someone just through sheer CNS overload.

Zombies don't feel pain, so that's no longer an option.
You'd need to hit something vital, and the AK47, although reliable, is not particularly accurate, only grouping to 3 or 4 inches at 100 yards on a good day.

I'm not saying that if there were a zombie outbreak that I'd turn down the option of having an AK47 by my side, but there are probably better things.
Does that thing kinda look like a big cat to you?

Ak47s 7.62* 39mm. Relatively low velocity at only 2342 feet per second, around. The Ak74 5.45* 39mm get about 2500 feet per second, but its low caliber is not too lethal, but it does tumble inside a body, cutting lots of vital organs. I have thought up my own guns. I think a reliable round would be 8mm*68mm. It is a full powered rifle round, so it would be ideal for a full machine gun, like a modified BAR. Ive also thought of moding m1 garrands to fire .338 Lapua Magnum, or .300 Lapua Magnum.

When ammo is the problem, use pneumatic guns and make sure to get alot of foam, maybe even control a foam factory in the long run.
You can cut sabots from the foam and as long as you've got pressure (compressors on solar power/wind power), you can shoot anything you want at em.

Personally, I would arm myself with a 8-shot pump-action Mossberg 500 shotgun loaded with 0 buckshot , Colt 1911 .45 pistol, and an AR-15 modified with the .50 caliber receiver and barrel from Alexander Arms along with both the 400 grain soft point and 350 grain hollow point rounds.

I think I'd have plenty of stopping power with these, even against the undead.

Some rounds i have theorized:
9mm* 89mm
7.77mm *69mm

Both are highly powerful, and pack the energy of high density rounds and can easily take down even the umfattest zombies

Seems like there are misconceptions about the type damage a .30 cal. can cause at high velocity.
I found this interesting video:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_8vGXGO1 ... re=related (Professional Barnes Bullets vid).
The one shot is .30 cal at only "2200 fps to simulate a 400 yard shot"
Check out how it expands in only 3" of gelatin which is mostly made of water.

I've seen pretty wild [holes in soft stuff] from even a .243 diameter rifle.
Velocity is a huge factor for firearms.
According to "first responders" book (for training paramedics) about 1400fps is the thresh-hold for "High energy weapons" that cause much larger wound cavities.
For spud technology, that's hard to get. But If the round was say 2" to begin with, it only needs penetration to possibly cause large holes too.
I'd prefer a rifle bullets over a .50 cal. pistol bullet. They're effective to greater range as well.
For spudding, something large and similar to handgun speed would be very smashing as well (at close range). But with High velocity of rifles the impact causes what it strikes to become projectiles right along with it and cause much larger diameter damage. To zombies of course. 8)

You do not need large bullets for power. The Barret M82 type weapons only get 2500 feet per second, their around. What is need is a high density (that jew kid mentioned this) and high velocity. The .338 Lapua Magnum and the .300 Lapua Magnum are bth extremely high velocity, the .338 equals 8.5mm and the .300 equals 7.62. the .338 is 79mm long and the .300 is 71mm long. Each gets reportedly 3500-4000 fps. If they where made f depleted uranium they would be ubber powerful, more so than a .50cal
