Music for Youtube videos

Hey, I'm wondering if anybody knows some good sources for music that I could legally add to the background of video clips from my high speed camera. I've found lots of sources for royalty free music, but most of them seem more suited for quick clips or playing quietly in the background as something else is going on, and they just seem repetitive when they are pretty much the only sound on a 3 minute clip. I'm looking for something that would go well with a video similar to the first one I posted

I would consider paying up to $50 for the right music.

I've been told it is possible to use most music under a free use rationale. It's not hard to do, covers almost all music, and all it does is add an advert on the page to let the song be downloaded on iTunes.

Regrettably, I didn't find that out until after I'd taken down the HEAL video...

You took it down for that reason?

As far as I'm concerned, if some artist has a problem with me using their music, they can message me and I'll take it down. If not, I'll do whatever the hell I want with it.

I include the artist /song title when possible, so they shouldn't complain about free advertising.

Sorry mate, can't help you out, although I must say, that video of yours there is quite great stuff, how much did the high speed camera set you back?

That was at the point when they were just outright blocking the videos on the basis of the audio fingerprint technology having found a copyrighted music track, not silencing them as they do these days.

At the time, the options were Dispute, which carried all sorts of nasty warnings about not misusing it on pain of lawyers; Silence it, which destroyed much of the video's vibe; Dub it over with the most horrific selection of free-use tracks; or take it down.
All options were listed as irreversible.

Not wanting to mutilate the video by stripping it of all soundtrack or making it sound awful, and put off by the threats of legal action, I decided to do the humane thing and let it die peacefully.
I now know that the dispute function is not as evil as they made it sound, so next time I have a problem I'll try that instead.

I did as well (although in the credits, not in the info box, which would have meant it weren't searchable).
In the end, they've lost out as well, because I know I got more than one person into Nightwish by using that song - I can think of at least three people I've spoken to who've told me it's why they're into the band, and I have no doubt there are potentially dozens more (given the number of people who didn't read the credits and asked what the song was in the comments).

Evidently, it was music that appealed to spudders.
In a mild irony, I no longer listen to the track I used ("Last of the Wilds") - I now use a version that was released on a special edition which doesn't have the ocean sounds at the start, the instrumental version of Erämaan Viimeinen. It's not bad with the vocals (which are all in Finnish), but I've just become so accustomed to hearing the instrumental version now that I can't really change over.

Still, the video is still up on Photobucket.

Go to http://rhettandlink.com/music/ for some good instrumentals that you can download for free. The ones that cost are less than a buck.

I know another website that's like that.

It's called TV Tropes. They even have a page that talks about the fact that the site is like that.

Thanks MRR, I'll check that out and see if I can find anything good.

Rag, yeah Youtube does have some music licensing deals built in where they will display ads and send the profits to the record companies, but it is hard to find out which songs you can do this with. I am considering that as an option, but I'm still not fond of the idea that if a record label gets greedy and wants to renegotiate then the video would get pulled or muted.

Fnord, I'm not really worried about the artists because anyone who has half a brain probably wouldn't have a problem with people using their music for such purposes. I'm worried about the <a href="http://arstechnica.com/old/content/2008 ... rs">record labels</a>.

Hah, I like their songs willard, I don't know that they fit in with my videos, but thanks for the link.

Lots of different things in there. Generally quite short, but in about every style under the sun. There's more good stuff in there than I know about. If you look around for long enough, something will fit.

Why not use a live recording of the song you want? Would deter YouTube's automatic audio fingerprinting...

I've got a program that will audio fingerprint most tracks... It's nothing compared to what Youtube's technology can do, and I've only ever found a scarce few tracks it can't identify, and they're all very obscure ones (and I mean VERY obscure.)

Using a live version will only work if they don't have the live version on their databases, and I strongly suspect they will.

well i like music of the kind that i put on my first high speed video ever, not as good camera but it captures stuff slow(er) then normal.
