We've ordered my lathe...I like it how dad's happy to pay a ##%$ load more to get something decent..

The original budget was $1000, which basically sentenced me to a crappy little micro red lathe... Well over the course of several weeks the price went up to...$4550..

We got some very fair discounts..

We were originally going to get the al-320g, but decided on this one because it's 30cm longer, has a foot brake, coolant pump, twice as powerful, work light, chuck guard, twice as many gears and so on..

We have a lot of metal stock around, and I can cast what I need whenever.

We've ordered/paid..So it'll be a day before he gets that, then it will be a week to come over from the eastern states, then we'll pick it up soon after that..

Any suggestions for a first project? I was thinking of a small CO2 engine..

There are a lot of gun projects on it I wanted to do, but my parents are saying I should slow down..at least they aren't saying stop completely. The biggest concern is that my gun can be heard audibly through the entire town, and the cop station is one street away..

Felt like I had to brag..


Any good, small, harmless project ideas would be appreciated. No (big) guns for a while, as I think my parents will be highly pissed. I might make some tooling to press rockets with and the likes..

cut chamber size of your launcher by 3 or 4... you should still have quite a lot of power but your guns will be rather quiet... additionally you miight add a silencer to make any gun even more quiet

I've decided to go an easier route- finish my hand pump, and shoot out of town. I have to go about 100 metres and then I shouldn't get any trouble with people, then just walk a bit further down to the river and shoot.

I'm a performance nazi, so the chamber will probably stay unless it takes wayy to long to pump up..

Oh by the way here's what's done on the pump so far:

Compression olive epoxied onto aluminum pump body


Check valve before epoxy casting


Fill QD


Piston (floating o-ring type)


Base and fill hose setup

I'll stay to 300 psi to keep that hose alive for the time being- hopefully I can get it replaced soon..

I must say congrats. 2 HP. This is not a toy. Spend the time to learn to use it. Used improperly, they can quickly create expensive damage and injury. Used properly, it will last for generations.

Has anyone seen (metric) plans for any CO2 or steam engines around? I'll probably just end up using some from Florida AME and converting them to metric but some metric plans would be much nicer to work with.

It's gets to Perth from eastern states on tuesday..Then it shall be picked up very shortly after..

Do a Google search on them, then get any free/trail drawing program and it will do the conversion with a click of the mouse. Dewey-1 can probly poiint out a good program for you if you ask.
