I'm a Mac-person because of the personal experiences I had with both OS;

This computer is a Mac, which we got like 4 years ago; runs really quick, never had any problems whatsoever with it.

3 years ago we go a PC; within 2 months it was absolutely fuked. I couldn't even log into it before it completely seized up and shut down, then the next time it would take 3 hrs to do a system check or some crap.
Occasionally when it did log in it would launch all these pop-ups about system updates, which wouldn't go away; the window wouldn't close.
Every program would seize up immediately after opening; which usually took 20 or so minutes to actually open! then I couldn't use task manager becuase that had become non-fuking-responsive!

Then about a year and a half ago we got a laptop, also running windows' anal licking operating system;
the problems begun soon after, including;
the OS would NOT listen to you; it would go to sleep when I'd told it never to do that, then wouldn't be able to recover from it's "sleep" and the only way I could actually turn it off would be to remove the fuking battery! this was of course followed by lengthy sytem checks next time!
-it allowed you to change other users passwords when you were logged in as a guest, or even when you weren't logged in as a admin.
-there were endless error messages, about things which made no sense
-you couldn't fully wipe the hard drive to try and start again; it would keep all the shitty stuff which I was particularly trying to get rid of.
-it wouldn't be able to find programs, when they were where they always were, and had to always be found manually to open.

-these are just a handfull of the problems I've encountered with windows, at home, let alone the sort of problems we always had to endure at school; it feels like you're living in the freaking middle ages when you use Windows!
Biggest piece of shit ever invented!

So now we've had two PC's running windows which are now completely useless, over three years, and one Mac, which is four years old and runs better even now then the PCs did out of the box!

sorry about all this, but Windows really gives me the shits, and so do PC users who are too ignorant to even try out Macs before judging them and realising that they are a good reliable computer; sure they aren't compatable with everything, but what's the point in a PC being compatable with everything, if it doesn't fuking work!
FUCK!

The never-ending PC vs. MAC debate... Either parties could rant forever where there would be no concise winner. Each has its advantages and disadvantages hence each has its own fans/users with the occasional hybrid ( :lol: ) user. Can't we all just agree to disagree and decide for ourselves which one is best suited to the tasks we are employing the machines to do. And in the case where a user is undecided, couldnt we offer rational advice on either machine which is best designed and suited for his/her intended use, instead of fanning the embers of this debate?

Awesome, cool, sweet.

Yep, if I boot into windows. Then I boot back into OSX.

And yeah, Unreal Tournament has always been available on the mac. Same for UT2003, and UT2004. Medal of Honor, not sure, but call of duty 1 and 2 are also available on the mac. I'm pretty sure those strategy games are available too, but I don't play them. Anything that isn't, you can just boot windows and play them.
ammosmoke wrote: For one thing, quiet has nothing to do with whether it is a pc or not!!
It only has to do with the fans and the hardrive.
Duh. And guess what? Most macs come with quiet fans and hard drives. Apart from the old G4 quicksilvers, which were obnoxiously loud, most modern macs are extremely quiet. My 24" iMac is very quiet, I can barely even hear the fan, and that only seems to turn on under heavy loads.
If you wanted to, you could install mac os on any computer you want!
No you can't. You can install OSX86, which is a hacked version of the original kernal to attempt to be the newest mac OS, but there's so many problems that you have to be a huge dork in order to get it to run right, and anytime there is a system update it might screw up your machine. Trust me. I looked into it a LOT, because I wanted to build my own PC, then install OSX, but it's NOT that simple. You need to recompile things to get the sound cards to work, ethernet to work, all sorts of little glitches. It's not easy to do. You do have to be somewhat of a dork to get it running right.
So, if I installed my mac on my dell, does it automatically become physically more reliable?
I'm not sure how you can install 'your mac' on your dell. You could install a hacked version of OSX, but it wouldn't work well. Go ahead. Try it. It would be nudered, and only 'sort of' work. That said, yes, the operating system would probably be more reliable.
No.... For heavens sake, the compact mac g5, (the all one piece thing) had problems with overheating because it had so much stuff crammed in it!
I have a 24" iMac. Even more stuff crammed in it, including a superdrive, camera, and a 256 meg Nvidea 7600GT. No problems. Even more, I'm in charge of a few computer labs at school, and we have about 75 iMac G5s, and about 30 intel iMacs. None of them have had problems since my school bought them. So what are you talking about?
Nobody is going to be able to sell you parts for those things except mac, because they all have to be so tini!
Again you're making things up. I can buy any hard drive I want and install it into an iMac. I can also buy any compatiable core2duo, and swap those out also. Same goes for the ram. The LCD and motherboard, obviously you can't replace.
Mac makes things "streamlined" to the point of rediculousness.
I've always said anybody who can't spell RIDICULOUS correctly probably doesn't know what they're talking about. Thank you for strengthening this hypothesis.

The fact that you don't know what Linux is, and you capitalize MAC like that only shows your ignorance. You really don't know what you're talking about. MAC is not the same as Mac. MAC=

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MAC_address

Mac= a computer made by Apple. I'm guessing you haven't used one in years. There's no comparison for daily usage. Macs are more stable, and easier to use. Windows only has an advantage in the gaming and weird oddball program sectors.

One other thing: RESALE VALUE. I bought a quicksilver with 20" cinema LCD for $1600 a few years ago. I put a little money into it, I upgraded the videocard, and then, I needed an intel mac for school, to run the occasional windows program. I couldn't sell it, so I parted it out. I sold everything except the case and the fans, and I made $1400. Yep. Only a loss of $200 for using a machine for about 2.5 years. Pretty incredible. I've had similar experiences with all my macs, actually. Hence why I could afford a 24" iMac. The resale value just doesn't plummet like a windoze PC, because the machines are STILL USABLE and STILL pretty snappy. Hell, my old 1st generation iMac is running as a server in my closet, it's uptime is over 100 days so far (the last restart was for a system update), and it runs the latest version of OSX pretty nicely, even with a 600mhz G3 processor.

Maybe they won't shutup because PC users are too busy spreading ignorant bullshit, and other things they have no clue about. This thread is a perfect example. Lots of PC users saying "Dey won't use a 'MAC' cuz dey used one in 1998 and it sucked so there!"

Whatever. I could make a list about PC users. They'd all drive beige camry's. They'd all have jobs involving excel. Etc.

Yeah and people who have never used a Mac, or only used one once like 10 years ago (as you said cash) are suddenly experts on them.
At school a few years ago when I first got my Mac, all my ignorant PC using friends were like "Macs suck....why did you get a Mac? etc" and I asked them if they'd ever used one.....no they hadn't, so what were they basing their argument on then? It's so typical of a PC user who is incapable of accepting that Windows is NOT the only OS, nor necessarily the best, simply because they use it.
Windows stole heaps from Apple anyway; like the basic idea for the interface....and many of Vista's best features are things that have been blatantly stolen from Apple.

And how many positive comments about Vista have been posted in this thread?

Also, I have used a mac before. I do not like them. Their user interface is strange, everything is too simple, clean, and streamlined, not one single button actually SAYS what it will do...

Also, right ferocious arguing you two. "they can't shut the fuck up about how great their Macs are." It seems that the two responses here are, in essence, saying "Macs rock because they just work!" Straight outta Apple's marketing campaigns.

cash68 and SleekZ, you guys are accusing everyone here that disllikes mac's of being ignorant whilst both of you have proven yourselves guilty of just that. You obviously have a biased opinion, which is fine, but slamming other people's opinions and saying that they are wrong and you are right, put nicely, is impolite. Each to his own...

The endless rambling that pc's are shit and mac's are better is stupid, since both machines can do what the other can't. People can point out all of PC's flaws, but I'm sure I could make a list just as equal about Mac's.

cash68: pointing out other people's spelling errors and grammical mistakes just to degrade them is quite frankly juvenile and annoying. If it does not contribute towards the discussion, why include it?

Sorry had to rant like this, but the lack of manners in this topic was really pissing me off.

Setting the record straight... I have nothing against anyone here, just play nice.

integral, I think alot of what I said came across the wrong way.
I just still get annoyed at all the money I spent on PCs, which now do not work, but in particular; how much shit I got from my friends when I first got my Mac, and many other people, who also had never used one. So from my personal experiences PC users produced 100% negative results. I realise now that this is not true, and I'm sorry if I offended anyone.
However it's a topic for me that has underlying issues, as written above, and one of the things that angers me the most is people who feel the need to constantly insult people about anything they can, for absolutely no reason.
I realise this could sound hypocritical, but it was never my intention to attack any of you, but my past experiences were still clouding my judgement and I got overly defensive to the people (you guys) who did not deserve it.
If I make any further contributions, they will be more reasonable and fact based.

Unless they're not true, at which point I will intervene. One person said you can't get this game or that game on the mac, and about 50% of the games he listed ARE available for the mac, and have been for a very, very long time. The rest are still playable on a mac, you just boot into windows to do so. Another person said that parts are impossible, which is complete crap. Even when I had a g4 based mac, I ordered harddrives, ram, fans, videocards, fan controllers, cooling accessories, all sorts of stuff that either works because it's the same exact stuff, or required a simple modification (I flashed a cheap PC radeon 9800 into a mac version. It took 10 minutes). Modern macs use PC cpus, gpus, ram, hard drives, fans, and all sorts of other stuff.

I don't have a problem if people's opinions have some merit, but I do have a problem with opinions supported only by ignorance.
