I need to replace my recoil spring on a weed whacker

does any one know how to replace the recoil spring on a weed whacker. mine broke so i took it out and then it unwound and i cant get it back in. does anyone know how to get it back in? please i need help fast!?!?!?!.
its the part that recoils the rip cord once you pull it THANKS!

ive taken it apart on a feahther lite 26 cc. the recoil spring isnt hard to put back, you just have to mess around with it, its really difficult to explain over the internet other than play around with it until you get it back together.

ok did u wind it up in a coil and then put it back in the housing or did you hook one end up to the pully and slowly wind it into place?? because right im pretty much baffled ive fiddled qwith it for hours and couldnt get it... maybe im looking at it the wrong way.

i just kinda put it in there and pulled on the rope until it aligned it self. then i pressed down really hard with one hand and put the screws back in with the other.
it took me maybe 5 minutes, so maybe you have a different type because the one i had only had a couple parts.

if its what i think i say the easiest way to do is wind it back up on a flat surface and hold it in the wound position with some of those locking pliers then insert it back into its housing. i did that with my friends scooter spring, i assume your talking about the big flat coil spring... if your not completely disregard this post.

Did it actually break, like the spring snapped? If so, you can take a propane torch and heat it up, then rebend it. Be careful, it may get brittle if you heat it too much or too long.
To get it in, just do what others here have. Wear gloves, those things can be sharp.

If you go get a new spring, 90% of them come in a little metal cup you just drop in gently and put the screw in your done. Most of weedeater recoil springs just have a bent end, a little more then 90 degress, 1/4 inch long, i've never heated one for a quick fix, just allow room for the bend to happen so it don't snap.
