Check this out. This is my uncle's pnumatic gun. It shoots a 10 pond projectile 4,821 feet ! WTF! (No wonder my family was not that impressed with my gun.) They have won the world championships 3 of the last 4 years. They would have won in '04, but they overshot the entire range, which was clearly the longest shot, but with no way of determining the impact point, no official distance could be recorded. Check out this site for the official distances for the past five years. They even had a segment on monster garage the backyard monsters episode.(There are some AWESOME damage pics on their web page)
Bow down in shame and humility to this mother of all monster cannons.

I don't know if it was on mythbusters. I know it was on monster garage because my uncle brought the tape of the show to the family Christmas party this year.

Good question. I will definitly find out everything I can and post it up here. The team is comprised of mostly engineers and alot of the disign is secret but I will try to get some info.

Looks like it might be a huge piston valve with a butterfly valve. Might be wrong though.

that is what i would consider a damn hardcore cannon.... it looks like they modified a phucking construction crane to lift that HUGE AND LONG barrel

Here's what I found out. It has 2 valves that fire a split second apart. The first is low pressure to get the punmkin moving and the second is higher pressure for the volocity. My uncle didn't know too much (or at least didn't want to tell me to much) about it. He just invested in the project and helped put it together. His title on the team is "second artillary". He's in charge of the ammo and hands it up to the gunner. I got a lengthy explanation about the hybrid pumkin strain grown in certain conditions only found in South America, or something, but not much technical info on the gun itself.

They were on some show awhile ago where they were shooting at cars.
I was surprised at how accurate it was and that the pumkin went through the cars!

I think they won like $1000 worth of power tools.

Nice gun! I live in Delaware, near where the punkin chunkin championships are at. I was there when Second Ammendment overshot the range. They were given like 2 hrs to find it in the woods, but no luck.
