Ok, the artards over at airsoft retreat think that airsoft artillery is impossible. But like i said, i think their wrong.
Their argument was that bbs dont have the mass to get distance.
We all know a big enough gun could solve that problem for us.
Waste of ammo
How else you gonna hit a target?
Again, I think airsoft artillery will work and i want to discuss the idea further.

Unless you have some sort of sabot that dislodges mid-flight, they are right. Airsoft BB's are too light to go very far at all.

I agree with Mr. Crowley, maybe you could adapt a design used for releasing parachutes at the apex of it's flight, releasing a rain of airsoft bb's. It sounds like too much work for the effect (and cost).

2 Dixie disposable cups loaded with bb's taped off with 1 piece of scotch clear tape. They fit in 2" SCH 40 and when fired they initially stay inside the cups for about 100 feet and then disperse because the tape peels off due to air resistance. However its not too many bb's and wouldnt be too efective as airsoft artillery.

OMG the only reason I joined this site was to help me on my newest project, Airsoft artillery!

My plan includes, Easter egg grenades (***CENSORED***)

The hard part with this is making it semi-auto, ***CENSORED*** before firing. Any help or ideas would be great.

Its going to be pneumatic for consistency and accuracy.

EDIT: Can some tell me how bolt action works, Im very confused when it comes to this.

Like the guy in the Harley shop told me when I was asking about parts:
"Man you can do anything, It's just a matter of imagination"(and money)

I've found that to be true but to get airsoft to go far will require imagination.

@DrowningTrout you'll need to go back and edit that reply since it breaks the rules. Please read the rules and refrain from breaking them.

Grenade pneumatic?
Better be.
If not..you're breaking the rules.

yeah no use of explosives grenade rounds.

Besides fireworks are not allowed on most airsoft fields anyways.

You would need some sort of time fuse. It does not have to be explosive though. You could use the old pin in plug with burst disk grenade, however it is made out of pvc and you would not want to launch a chunk of pvc towards people. I suppose you could make it 2" and longer and then surround it with another 2 inches of foam and have a 4" barrel.

But even with the 2" of foam it will still weigh a lot and be dangerous.

These Airsoft grenades are already allowed at the field I play at, Instead of throwing them, I am wanting to launch them up in the air.

They do no produce shrapnel, not harmful.

I will edit my post, but Im not launching fireworks Im launching an egg that contains a firework. (not powerful) None the less, I will edit it out.

Still against the rules. Edit the fuse part out too, it's implication.

what happens is the 2 parts of the eggs open up and the bbs fly out. The only "shrapnel" are the bb's themselves. I personally beleive they are safe however certain safety Nazis' don't allow them in airsoft because of the device used to open the eggs up.

Perhaps - and this would produce saftey issues of its own - you could use steel 5mm bbs. In Egland they are about $1 for 100, and so long as you fired them up, you wouldn't have a problem. The terminal enerygy is fairly low, and the only real problem is shredding up trees and if someone fired it directly.

 I've never heard of an "M1000" before, but it sounds like about half a pound of *magic dust* to me. Remember, this is airsoft we're talking about. High powered flashbang grenades that'll knock out the hearing of anyone in a 50m radius for half an hour aren't a particularly good idea.

And as for the OP: What kind of range would you be aiming for? If you contain the rounds in a cannister that's set to fall apart a certain time after firing, and propel the rounds out with another, smaller air charge, you could achieve far more range than you will ever need. If you're only talking about 100m or so, I'm sure that the BBs should be able to travel that distance if you can get them up to 1km/s or so.
