Need Horizontal Engine

Hello all,

I am in need of a horizontal shaft engine around 10-15hp.
I have searched the usual places for new ones but there all around $300-$500. I would really like to not have to spend that kind of money.
If anyone has ideas on where to get one please let me know.

It is for a future hovercraft project.

Thanks,
Brplatz

Take a regular engine and turn it 90 degrees.

you can't take a vertical shaft engine and turn it 90, the oil will like into the cylinder and the engine will burn oil fr the first half hour than it will start melting, when you turn it off the engine will cool, than when you go to start it agin it will be locked up and seized. I would use a 250cc or larger 2 cylcle snow mobile engine, 2 cycles have a higher RPM range than 4 strokes and you do not need a huge amount of torque unless you are spinning a MASSIVE fan, and I mean Gigantic. If you are determined, look for older lawnmowers, they used to have horizontal shafts in some, and some could range up to 30 hp

Try Harbor Freight tools, they have horizontal engines.

Close, but not many engines like that cuz of oil.
Why not take a regular engine and use something like a belt, chain or gears to rotate the rotary movement 90 degrees?

for such a set up it would only cost a little less than buying a used engine.
