Apparently IBM filed a patent on some new technology that triggers human nerves to help us dodge bullets...
Forking awesome if you ask me...

Thats cool but the body cant dodge something that goes 3000 fps but if the bionic armor reads when the gun will be fired and then reacts it might work.

All things a side I'm not sure how that would work because if it is armor it would have to "snap" the body out of the way thus hurting the individual.

If it is a chip then extreme measures would have to be put in for it not to interfere with everyday life like what sounds like a gun shot and what doesn't. Does it operate off of human hearing then. Bullets travel faster than the speed of sound at times thus the bullet would hit you then hear it.

It might send electrical impulses causing your body to contract a certain way but hey a broken neck is better then a bullet to the shoulder am i right.

I would have to see it to believe it...and then I might not believe it. Just doesn't sound plausible you could move something the mass of a human body even a few inches fast enough to make a difference...without hurting the human. The sudden movement would be move akin too an explosive push to one side or the other.

Nah, not buying it....yet anyway....

You guys didn't read the patent at all did you?
It is designed to protect mainly against sniper fire, using some sort of electromagnetic, vision, or something like that. Even the fastest rifles will take a second or more to reach the target, at a safe range, because the sniper wants to be as far away as possible. The longest range assassination was at something like 2500m, and so took in the range of 4 seconds to reach the target...

edit: and just like that, the patent has been withdrawn...
What timing on my part. I stumble on this a whole hour or two before it is withdrawn...

In that case, the big problem would be calculating the trajectory with a radar like device and would have to be sensing in 360 degrees...and it obviously couldn't use sound detection to kick things off.

Assuming you could get a calculation fast enough moving the body a foot to one side or the other would still take 1/4 sec or so.

You would have to hope the shooter was faaaar away.

A diagram I saw off of the site that quotes part of the patent shows there being external sensors. I suppose it would be used for big public events, such as the inauguration, and the likes, where they could hide the sensors in the big speaker towers, and all, to actually get a good reading on the bullet.
What ever the needed circumstances, IBM withdrew the patent, so either it is total worthless shit, or they figured it out completely, and don't want anyone else getting any ideas. The patent had only been in place for less than a week, so who knows...

There are many worthless crap patents, things that can never work.

The things you unpatent are the ones where you don't want anything about their construction known... in other words, it probably has been classified.

Mabye if the gun was a ways off, like a sniper rifle or something of that nature. Then I could see it mabye working. Mabye. It could also be a bullcaca patent as Rag said.
