oops, I'd say paintball in terms of fun, but a day of golf is always nice now and then.

Wait, are you talking about use the balls for their intented use? Most of us must have thought about launching em with spudguns when they read the title.
I'd go for paintball. Golfing and paintball are very different sports, so you should try them yourself and do whatever you like.
Its the same as asking "should I go play soccer or chess". How the hell would we know what you will like? Just try both of em and make your own choice.

In terms of expense if you already have your equipment I imagine paintball would be a lot more expensive. As I've never paintballed I don't know how much it is for field time but golf for an 18 hole greens fee is ~20 at my local course.

Personally? It's a wash. When I played paintball I figured on spending about $20-30 a day. When I golf? Same.
Of course, much depends on local economics. Do you play paintball at a pay field? How expensive is the local golf course? It all depends....

18 holes of golf in my area goes from anywhere between $30 and $75 with a cart, depending on the course. My gut feel is that on average, golf will be somewhat more expensive overall if participating regularly. Obviously anything can be taken to extremes and the limits of ones pocketbook.

If you golf a lot, it gets cheaper (per day) with a membership.
Have to fork out a chunk of cash up front though. $900 at the local 18hole course.
6 days a week for 16 weeks...that's less than $10 for 18 holes.
It only gets better if you play two rounds/day on the weekend.

You may not have to pay to play... believe me, it isn't free. Sure, it's a sport...a fairly awesome one...

one factor that not being taken into account is the equipment, i dropped $1k on my clubs, but i played for my high school team and i play everyday in the summer, so its worth it for me, but i dont think ive ever heard of someone paying $1000 of paintball gun and armour

Paintball would be my choice.
Seriously, crawling around sweating through the woods all day shooting people... versus driving and walking around all day in the sun hitting perfectly good ammo with a club... it's clear cut for me.
