The forum rules state....

Discussion of solid propellants, explosive devices or incendiary projectiles fired specifically from a spud cannon is prohibited

Now, if I want to discuss firearms that's a discussion of solid propellant actuated devices but there is zero intention of said solid propellant to be fired from a spud cannon.

So can firearms be discussed in the non-spudgun related discussion area?

i suppose if its absolutely not related to spud guns and has nothing to do with killing animals, then yes you can, but what do i know, I'm just a loony...

Well, it's been a few hours and the only feedback is positive, so I think I'll start a new thread....

I would recommend sending PC Guy a PM and ask. Better to get a blessing or a no instead of a canceled account. He is pretty good about those type questions. I posted a safety post on some stuff normally used in fireworks. He was ok with it as a general safety discussion. It does pay to ask.

I saved his reply on a post I made that was possibly against forum rules. He replied "Your post is fine, thank you for going into detail about it.".

Obviously, I'm not a moderator, but I did write this passage for the Spudwiki explaining why some of the rules (specifically rules 2 & 3) are in place.

Still, that was more on the matter of what could be termed a "spudgun". In terms of the absolute letter of the rules, it reads as okay - but check with PCGUY first!

LOL... OK, despite the lag that the posting details would imply, I left this thread and immediately started a new thread. I typed it all up and then the phone rang. When I came back I realized I'd not hit "submit". I did so and then saw new activity on this thread. Oh well.

That said, reading Rag's discussion of rules 2 & 3 in the wiki, I don't see any contradiction. I'm very clearly NOT discussing spudguns nor am I discussing shooting at anything with a pulse.

Personally I say it's fine. Think firearms have been discussed before. Just don't talk about hunting.

If the Non-Spudgun section is overflowing with firearm topics, then we'll get you guys to move to Theopia, I guess. I would class firearms as a hobby and/or sport, so it falls within the guidelines I posted there I believe.

Don't mistake it for hard and fast discussion, but those points are pretty much the reasons I've heard for those rules.*

I kinda got the idea that you were asking about a "more serious project" of yours, not simply asking about whether a Firearms showcase thread was appropriate, to which the answer was unlikely to be no.

Firstly, this is because it's highly dangerous.

What it doesn't specify is that for obvious reasons of association, PCGUY (Kyle) doesn't want the site to be a vessel promoting unsafe launchers.

So long as you weren't manufacturing a firearm, as you would a potato launcher, design is of total exclusion D_Hall. Also a firearm is tied to a manufacture, not SpudFiles. God forbid if something of safety were to arise, the "X" mark lands on the capital laced manufacture. Then this totally unsocial structured thing called a disclaimer comes into play.
