Dry firing my hybrid is pretty damn loud to say the least. Maybe consider a cheap and simple hybrid chamber with super short barrel?

Trip Thunder always comes out for me. Basically the same solution as Moonbogg, except 1X combustions with burst disk barrel stumps...really really LOUD...

My pneumatic may a quite loud pop when i fire water into the air. Filling a ziplock bag with propane, then making a gas trail to light is always fun

I sometimes do the 50/50 welding gas mix in small zip lock bags placed in a lunch sack. The lunch sack is lit on top and used as a fuse. It is too loud to be next to it when it goes off. I haven't done that in a couple years due to my urban location. That was a country regular activity.

Most places those a illegal in a major way. Discussion of that propellant is against the spudfiles forum rules. It has a solid oxidizer. Can you think of a possible noisemaker that is not solid oxidizer based?

Flaming projectiles are also on the Spudfiles no-no list. If you want a tracer, may a recommend glow sticks? They work great.

Please don't mention fireworks again. This is even more important on the illegal ones. It is a quick way to receive the wrath of the moderators.

You could always start a sodium hydroxide and uluminum reaction inside a two liter I know I know i shouldnt have said that. hmm maybe a high pressure dry ice burst disk cannon.

Unfortunately, I have no means with which to ring in 2010, and making noise would be a decidedly bad choice in my situation.

Mr. Sandman, propane-based noisemakers can be considerably more effective than their pyrotechnic counterparts (and certainly moreso than over-pressurizing soda bottles), especially with large chambers, 2"+ diameter burst disks, and >10X hybrid mixes.

Normal people measure sound in decibels. It has always been my belief that, when spudders are concerned with making noise, they should be measuring in pounds per square inch

To make noise properly, you'll need combustion. Due to the faster gases and often higher pressure, there is a noticeable difference in the quality of the sound produced - much more defined and longer ranged.

This is, I suspect, due to something of a shockwave effect - rather than filling an entire volume with released gas, the pressure is concentrated at the boundary of the expanding region and drops off rapidly behind this boundary. Thus, as you drop the release time, increase the expansion speed, and increase the pressure, the observed overpressure propagation will move away from an inverse cube proportionality and toward a linear proportionality, which is obviously much more desirable not only for sound quality, but for range as well.

Not necessarily. A drinks bottle pumped past 10bar will give a mighty boom. Larger bottles need less pressure, but wrapped in tape you can really get some noise from them. Be sure to wear ear protection though!

If a pressurised soda bottle isn't a suitable nosiemaker I don't know what is... After I did this, My parents came running from the house across the street because they thought I had blown myself up. Its also Really easy to set up and can be triggered from a distance with another noisemaking device (air rifle, cannon, ect). It's also really fun to fill it with confetti before you pop it.
