This may be the smallest cannon I've ever made!

Its a minature field cannon with a 1/2" bore. I'm not sure how much more i can elaborate on this here? so I'll post some pictures.




I've had the mechanical tubing for a while from a challenge DYI had for me but I never persued lol. I basically got bored this morning (9am) and by lunch time I had a cannon!

The barrel is 1.5" OD and .515" ID by 8.5" effective, so bearings should be a welcome mate for it.

To seal off the back, I first round a hardened 1/2" clevis pin. Cut it down to 1/2" long. Pounded it a few times to increase the OD to slightly larger than the bore. I pressed it into the bore then did a route and two extra passes by tig welding on the rear before welding on the ornamental ball to complete the cannon look.

The wheels turn and all for recoil action and its slightly rearward weighted.

Sometimes its just fun to make random stuff rather than always designing it!

No CAD, Calculators or Paper was harmed in this activity lol.

Are you going to clean up the rust? it would look realy good. you cant talk about but it but post some dmg pics.

I agree with Davidvaini - The rust sort of makes it look authentic.

lol - similar, the only difference is my lungs only produce deflagrating results.

I trust you're blowing in to that small hole in the back to propel the projectile, it's definitely not a hole for a fuse

Yes, quite a few of us have "magic" lungs, mine sometimes reach DDT.

Funny how in-situ nitration occurs in the alveoli.

If you have access to a lathe it could come up very nicely.

Also could you PM me regarding the amount of lung power you put into it? I have the materials for such a blowgun laying around.

Neat job, MC (Hammer). Coincidentally, did you use a stick/MIG/TIG welder or gas? Been looking at getting a basic oxy/acetylene setup for welding low carbon steel implements...

All welding was TIG. They all have their applications (stick/mig/tig) and I have all three as well as a oxy/ac set up and use all regularly when working on a project. The Tig unit is a Tig/Stick/Plasma unit and is very very convenient for a hobbyist like myself. It would not be great for a work environment but if you can find one I highly recommend it!

I do find myself typically tig welding everything. I have not needed to weld Stick at all yet - unless just for trying it. If there is anything where the volume of work is larger and repetitive I will use the mig machine on it.

I learned how to weld by first brazing and then gas welding using my oxy/ac setup - and with that I would recommend it to you if you are trying to learn how to weld. However I'm not sure I can recommend welding a pressure vessel as a newcomer. Not to sound pompous but pressure vessel welding is (neglecting underwater welding) one of the hardest things to learn and perfect - I'm not there yet but I've got a year of in-field experience from it and I still cringe at high pressures even though I've had my welds hydro-tested at close to 2000psi on sch10 without a leak!

Now it's pretty cool that he's got a mini cannon, it's even cool that he's shooting at targets, but IN HIS HOUSE? The blatant disregard for his own home made me laugh while watching this video, I mean seriously where are all the shots going? are they hitting a dense foam catch target? or shooting through to the neighbors apartment? lol

Watch the first one as well - he shoots everything within a foot of his computer! lol

Nope, no pressure vessels (yet). I was mainly looking at something to weld up brackets and stands for my (soon to be) shop.

EDIT: oh god I lol'd. This guy is either careless or has some pretty sweet renter's insurance and an alibi.

Guys I think you missed the point of the small hole in the back. I thought it was an advanced combustion launcher. The small hole is for the ignition.

Yea you could say it's advanced combustion... it was advanced when the Chinese created it!
