i was looking at different mufflers to put on , but i want it loud as possible but still pass inspection, i looked at cherry bombs( glass packs) but do not want that rice burner sound, i cant straight pipe it or just cut the muffler off, there has to be something on there,

some people so the cherry bomb gives it deep sounds like a 5 speed others say its really loud like a big truck

For a muffler I'd recommend using an unmodified stock muffler.

The reason for this is, everyone you drive by will think you're an obnoxious asshole, especially when you need to make a quick run to the store at 2:00 in the morning.

We had kids that took the mufflers off their atvs and rode them through the woods all the time. I was about ready to sneak out at night and set the things on fire after a couple months of this.

Bottom line, you can do it, but you'll piss people off. If I was a cop I'd be trailing you every time I saw you around, waiting for you to give me a reason to nail you.

+1.

A loud car doesn't make you cool and it doesn't get you girls. People just think you're a twat for trying to impress them with loud noises. Conversely, a quiet car wont hamper your 'coolness' or your chances with a girl.

Be considerate of other people.

thats the thing cops cant say anything, you have a muffler and its still legal. they can pull me over for a brake light or speeding thats different

I think you missed his point

Fnord was making the point that cops will try and target you more than other people because you draw attention to yourself with a loud, annoying car. While a cop may ignore a minor infraction by another car, they may pull you over for the same minor infraction just because you have a loud car.

You'll want Flowmasters. They are loud, but not obnoxious. My dad put them on his 69 Mach 1 Mustang, and it sounded like a beast. They do not produce a loud sound, but are incredibly deep. The sound they produce however travels a long way, because of how deep they are. Flowmaster exhaust systems do pass inspection, and actually increase the performance of your vehicle.

they can pull you over for whatever they want. If the loud exhaust is legal but still obnoxious, they can get you for disturbing the peace or just make something else up. Happened to my buddy and his harley. Was loud and legal but the cop targeted him and every time hes out riding he gets pulled over and they make shit up.

That's a valid point. Police will stop you for some made up reason then dig to find a reason to ticket you or sometimes even arrest you. I see it all the time. Quite sad really. That's the problem with having a corporate police force.

Have had these behind a couple small blocks 350 and 383...had headers and dual exhaust on both of those trucks though...down spouts just off the mufflers under the box....no tail pipes. 8)

Well, this got me curious about my sewing machine 95 v6 Camry. The exhaust was replaced from the cat down and apparently it wasn't done very well. The pipe was bent and crushed in places. The middle hanger was never hung either and the entire exhaust is hanging about 4 inches too low on top of being very restrictive. If it weren't such a POS car I'd fix it.
I would do a simple straight through glass pack. They really aren't hard to make either. Also, glass packs are NOT ricer mufflers. It's the car that they're put on that's the problem. A well made glass pack sounds mean if done properly and will actually improve performance better than any other muffler. If you make it long enough with a thick enough pack around it then it will purr versus roaring.
