I have recently bought a real throwing knife made by the german knife company Linder. It was only a small blade and quite cheap $15. Me and my friends used to throw little pen knives or other knives against wood or trees and see who could hit the centre of the target. I can throw those pretty easy and most of the time they stick in. But I am having a lot of trouble to get the real throwing knife to stick in. I am doing everything properly and I have researched the web and found few sites that told you how to do it. They helped but it is only sticking in some of the time (like 1 in 10 throws!). Does anyone here know how to throw them or have experience? Thanks.

In the picture the top blue half serated one is the knife I used to use, It has a light on the top as its a hunting/fishing knife. The bottom one is a small Linder Rostfrei throwing knife, obviously single bladed and all metal.

You do know that you must hold the blade in a way that is comfortible for you when you throw?It takes a lot of practise,you can't just pic up any knife and pin it in a tree,you must practise with one and know it well. If you are have trouble getting it to pin its just trial and error. You also need a heavy blade,that one you have there looks too light.When you buy these things make sure they are balanced in the middle,if they are then they will tumble correctly when you throw them. If you have any other questions then ask,I know my way around a variety of cool and wierd weapons.

Thanks a lot )DEMON(. I think ive got the grip down right its just gonna be practice. I can do very short distances well its just long distances it wont do anything. The knife is pretty lightweight also, 135g to be precise. I checked when I bought it if it was balanced and It balances perfect at the middle which is one plus point. Ill just practice more and if I still cant get it I pm you. Thanks.

I have two balanced throwing knifes and they are really hard to throw and stick into anything but i manage to get the handle to stick in more then the blade one one and the other i threw at a tree and it bounced off and went missing which suck alot becuase my blade was made by a knife smith where i live and it was beautiful but now its lost

Keep on looking,it can't have gone far.Same thing happened to me but I found mine (after 3 days).

Thats what I find alot, I usuallt throw it into the ground for practice and the handle is ussually what goes into the ground. Its so annoying.

practice practice practice, you need to get the right motion going, most of it is in the wrist. i've had several throwing knives, and the cheaper they are, the shittier the balance is, the 20 dollar ones dont stick worth a shit, but a 50 dollar throwing axe my uncle had stuck no matter how you threw it, if you can get the right motion you should be able to make any of them stick, unless the balance is way off

Yeah the one I got was the best in the shop, Sydney hasnt really that big on weapons and throwing knives! But your right the more I have been practicing the more times I get it in.

I make my own throwing knives,they stick 90% of the time,even from far away. they are balanced perfectly in the center

Ive heard about homemade ones. So how do you make yours? Got any pictures?

saw blades and files make great starting points for making knives, i'm working on one myself, seeing the one my uncle made in high school shop class really inspired me to make my own, his is about 12" long, he made it for a friend, who died in a car crash, and the boy's father gave it back to my uncle, its a big hunkin' piece of steel, but that thing is razor sharp

Thanks guys Ill probably try to make my own, see how it comes out. Im in a metal work class at school so Ill make one then. At the moment we just make ninja stars.

good luck not getting expelled for that, 20 years ago? sure, my uncle made all kinds of stuff like that, now, you get caught, you're fucked, just dont do it in school

Yeah but I dont have any of the materials at home, I might think about buying a few of themand go from there, I really need to work on my tool set. Our technics/metal work teacher is awesome, We made a small shuriken at the end of term and he came over and showed us how to shine it up and stuff. But your right, maybe making a 12" throwing knife is a bit, well dodgy.
