I enlisted today [Dec. 28] in the United States Air Force. I hope to get my preferred job choice of Airframe Maintanance. Then once my Active duty is over I can become a civilian Mech.

Anyone else here enlisted or prior service?

SOUND OFF!

“I hope to get my preferred job choice of Airframe Maintanance.”????
What’s wrong with being a fighter pilot? Do you even get to fly?
On a more serious note, have you been or are you going to go to “Top Gun” (that is what it’s called, right? It’s been awhile since I saw it on the military channel.)
Any who, good luck to ya, Semper Fi! (Yes, I know that’s the marine’s motto but I don’t care.)
Call me "Judge", it's easier to type.

Not everyone in the AF is a pilot, you know :)

Besides, I would've had to go to the Airforce Academy in Colorado Springs. It seemed a likely choice for me, before I started getting lazy in school

Also, I'm not that good of a pilot. With Airframes I can work on machines all day. I may even learn how to use a CNC Lathe, so that's pretty damn cool.

Whats better... Using a lathe or dropping 1500 pound bombs on some terrist. I would go with the bombs. Thats just me. Oh im a terrible pilot also.

Most pilots going in and out if Iraq (in the air) are Cargo guys dropping off and picking up Army and Marines entering or leaving. Most Fighter-Bombers or strike fighters aren't being used too much these days. The grunts usually call in a AH-1 or Apache to blow some shit up. Fighters take too long. They're more strategic where a helo is tactical.

Before I enlisted I thought about being Special Forces (AF Combat Control). Those guys jump in and call airstrikes, and generally fight like SEALs and Green Berets.

Dumb Question Warning*

Do you have to go through "Boot Camp" for the air force?
